10 Fun Things To Do In Boston With The Family

Are your parents visiting you while you’re at school in Boston? Are you wondering what you should do together? Don’t worry! There are plenty of fun things to do in Boston with the family. Here’s a brief list of some ideas!

1. See classic masterpieces at The Museum of Fine Arts.

If you and your family are looking for excursions off campus and away from all the other northeastern parents, you absolutely must check out Museum of Fine Arts across the street! Not only is it super close but it’s a world-renowned museum and there are so many hidden treasures to find!

2. Take pictures of the cute penguins at The New England Aquarium.

If you or anyone in the family is an animal lover, this is the place for you! There are many cool and adorible animals to see (i.e. penguins and sharks). There is also whale watching available during this weekend.

3. Check out the planetarium at The Museum of Science.

As any science museum, this is a very hands on place to go. There are so many activities on each floor and many kinds of exhibits with so much to see. Also, there is a new exhibit that opens October 23rd: the Da Vinci exhibit, which gives an insight into the mind of Leonardo Da Vinci.

4. Have lunch at Harvard Square.

Check out the other side of the river and explore Cambridge. There is more to do on that side, and Harvard Square is pretty neat. There are a lot of touristy things to do, like strolling through the campus of where some great people once walked or stepping through the Harvard Yard.

5. Go on a shopping spree at Newbury & Copley Square.

This is the most popular place for shopping, eating and just walking around. Even if shopping is not your main focus, it’s fun to people watch and see the excitement. Newbury Street is a mile long, so plan on walking a bit.

6. Have dinner in the Prudential Center.

Prudential also has stores, but that’s not the main attraction of it. At the Top of the Hub, you can have dinner there and enjoy the view. It is best to go there at night and see the city lights twinkle.

7. Shop and eat at Faneuil Hall.

This is a historic marketplace and meeting hall. It is very similar to the shopping and entertaining centers, but it also has a building full of different types of food kiosks. It is located in the center of the finance district and is full of great restaurants and casual places to places to shop.

8. Take in the history of The Paul Revere House.

Close to Faneuil Hall lies The Paul Revere House. How can you come to Boston but not visit this historic location?

9. Walk The Freedom Trail!

Close to Faneuil Hall as well and near Revere’s House is the Freedom Trail. It is a 2.5 mile route that gives you a tour of 16 historic sites.

10. You’re never too old for a Boston Duck Tour.

This is the classic tourist thing to do, but I highly recommend it for the whole family simply because there’s no walking and it’s an excellent way to see the whole city. Each tour is approximately 80 minutes but it’s an easy way to see what area you’d specifically like to see more of.

Clearly, there are so many fun things to do in Boston with the family! I suggest planning everything out and picking and choosing what it is that you and your family want to do. For more information about on-campus activities, check out this link.
