10 Fashion Trends From Sex and the City You’ll Want to Copy

Over twenty years ago, the women of Sex and the City won over our hearts and our wardrobes. From Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic naked dress to Charlotte York’s pink-on-pink couture, from Samantha’s fabulous statement earrings to Miranda’s powerful, no bullshit pantsuits, the women of SATC started trends, broke fashion rules and put brands we now know and love on the map.

Although the franchise ended years ago, the fashion trends of these four iconic women still inspire us today. Whether you are looking for pumps that reach higher than the Chrysler Building or as Carrie Bradshaw would say, you like your money where you can see it- hanging in your closet, we have rounded up the pieces you need to invest in to create your very own Sex, and the City inspired wardrobe. Here are 10 fashion trends from SATC you’ll want to copy.

1.The Nameplate Necklace

Throughout six seasons and two movies, we see Carrie Bradshaw wear her iconic Carrie necklace (and earrings in one episode), showcasing the name we have all grown to love. In 2020 we have everything from our phone cases to our water bottles personalized, but in the 1990s, that wasn’t always the case. Bought from a flea market for “practically nothing,” Carrie’s namesake necklace taught us that it’s the memories that matter, not the price.

2.The Peasant Shirt

We will never forget the time Carrie offered to take Adains dog for a walk only to end up chasing him down the streets of Manhattan in a white peasant shirt, blue exercise shorts, and flip flop styled pumps. Somehow Carrie Bradshaw, AKA Sarah Jessica Parker, pulled this look off seamlessly, and you can too. Peasant shirts are in, and they pair great with your favorite denim, cosmopolitans, or exercise shorts if you’re bold enough to take this fashion trend risk.

3. Charlotte’s Penchant for Pinks

The Upper East Side princess Charlotte York is known for her love of preppy couture, especially in the color pink. While you make, think it was millennial who first started this trend, think again. This SATC beauty was wearing top-to-toe pink decades before you.

4. Samantha’s Color Blocking

Green and yellow? Blue and pink?Orange and pink? Color blocking was one of Samantha Jones’ most noteworthy styles throughout the seasons of Sex and the City. This PR queen has still inspired looks on the runway to today with bold colors, sassy attitude, and of course, sexy ambiance.

5. Vintage Fur

All the way from the pilot of the show, to the ending of the series and even making an appearance in the movies,  vintage fur is worn among our favorite four women. Fur saw these women through fashion shows, weddings, new years eve and even a baseball game paired with everything from evening dresses to pajamas once thing we know is that vintage fur will never go out of style.

6. Pant Suits

Never has Miranda Hobbs’ no-bullshit approach to life, business, and fashion been more relevant than in 2020. Feminine pantsuits are in (and all over the runway), and we would like to thank our colorful friends on Sex and the City. Samantha Jones and Miranda Hobbs have been pulling this look off since the ’90s. Throughout the show, you will see them modeling colorful pantsuits, blazers, and fabulous business- chic style looks.

7. Ballerina Skirts

Nothing is more iconic than the opening credits featuring Carrie walking around the streets of Manhattan wearing a white layered tutu. A similar tulle skirt was featured in the very last episode where Mr. Big finally tells Carrie; She’s the one.

This look still appears on the runway by noteworthy designers like Valentino, Calvin Klein, and Dior. This is one of the fashion trends we love as much as the first day we saw it, and we couldn’t help but wonder if you feel the same way. In case you did, here is a look that is just as chic and absolutely fabulous.

8. Manolos, Manolos, Manolos

It’s hard to forget Carrie Bradshaw’s love for ridiculously priced shoes. From Lou Boutin’s to Manolo Blahniks, her impact on shoe fashion trends will never be forgotten and hasn’t. From the pink ruffle pumps, she wore on her last date with Mr. Big to the iconic blue, satin, crystal-embellished shoes that she wore to get married, SATC taught us that shoes complete an outfit, a walk-in closet and most importantly they are a great way to express ourselves. Yes, you can buy shoes in the name of fashion (do it.).

9. Comfy Chic

If there is anything that Miranda Hobbs taught us, its that we create our own style and that eating chocolate cake out of the trash can or ordering Chinese takeout all week is totally fine. On behalf of women everywhere, Id like to say thank you, Miranda Hobbs. Although she seemed to be disinterested in fashion trends throughout the series, much of what she wore is very on-trend now (ever so ironically). From puffer jackets to overalls, from baseball caps to high waisted bell-bottom jeans, the successful lawyer could be seen favoring fashion trends that were far beyond her times. Whichever Miranda you decide to be, accessorize it with sarcasm and skepticism.

We heart you, Miranda.

10. Statement Jewelry

Throughout the show, we see the women of Sex and the City wear a brilliant blend of emerging designers, big names, uptown and downtown styles.

From Carries gold diamond pretzel necklace to Charlotte classic pearl necklaces, from Samantha’s bold statement earrings to Miranda’s iconic bracelets, jewelry fashion trends can be seen in every episode. Here are a few similar looks to our favorite jewelry seen throughout the show.
