5 Eyeliner Hacks That Actually Work

Eyeliner hacks are everywhere on the internet, but most of them don’t work. Liquid eyeliner can be tricky to use, but once you’ve mastered it, you’ll never want to use any other kind! Here are 5 eyeliner hacks that are tried and true to help you achieve the perfect winged eyeliner!

1. Use a Piece of Floss

Grab a length of floss and pull it tight. Take your liquid liner and colour in a small section the length of how long you want your wing to be. Line up the end of the section you coloured in with the corner of your eye and make sure that the floss is extending past the tail of your eyebrow. Press against your eyelid. The section you coloured should leave a line that extends towards the tail of your eyebrow, but not quite reaching or touching the eyebrow. You want it to extend towards the very tip of the tail of your brow because it creates the most flattering wing angle for your eye shape! Colour in the same section and line up the end of it to the end of your line. Press against your eyelid so that it makes a triangle like a wing. Fill in, line your eye as usual, and you’re done!

2. Use Your Fingernail

This hack works with gel liner! Take your eyeliner brush and dip it in your gel liner. Make a line from the corner of your eye and extend it towards the tail of your eyebrow. Make another line to your eyelid to make a triangle. Fill in and line your eye. Using the tip of your fingernail, drag the tip of the wing out to the tail of your eyebrow. This will create a sharper edge. Conceal the end for a nice sharp point that will have everyone wondering how you did it!

3. With a Piece of Tape

Grab a piece of scotch tape or makeup tape and put it at the corner of your eye. Again, make sure it extends up towards the tail of your eyebrow. Take whichever eyeliner you want to use – liquid liner, felt liner, gel liner, or even pencil – and make a line from the tape towards the eyelid. Fill in the space to create your wing and line your eye. Remove the tape carefully and discard. You’ll have a sharp wing that will have people asking for your secret!

4. Use a Stencil

Eyeliner stencils are super easy to find on the internet! Not only can you find some super cute ones –  like ones designed to look like a cat stretching – they’re also incredibly useful! You can buy one or create your own for this hack. Stencils work by putting them over your eyelid about where you want your wing to be. So take your eyeliner stencil and put it over your eyelid! Fill in the space to create your wing. Depending on the stencil you buy, it may provide a part that extends over your eye so you can line your whole eye or it may just provide the outline for your wing. Either way, you’re guaranteed to get a perfect wing every time!

5. Create Your Own Stamp

Eyeliner stamps are actually pretty great! You could buy one, but most eyeliner stamps for sale are like felt liners. They’ll eventually dry out. For a longer lasting stamp, grab an eraser and cut it into a triangle the size and shape you want your wing to be. Fill it in with liquid liner and stamp on your eye to create the wing. Fill in the wing and clean it up if needed and line your eye. Repeat on the other eye. Before you reuse your stamp, gently clean it with makeup remover and a q-tip.
