10 Cozy Fashion Trends To Stay Warm This Winter

Staying warm in winter can be difficult, but staying warm and fashionable seems impossible. Luckily, the fashion world is starting to embrace the cozy aesthetic so that we can be warm and still look cute this winter. Following these cozy fashion trends will ensure that you stay in style this winter.

1. Turtleneck

I am honestly too passionate about turtlenecks, but the best part about winter is sweater weather and the best sweater by far is the turtleneck sweater. Turtlenecks are the ultimate cozy fashion item. We all have a plethora of sweaters in our closets but if you want an item that is versatile and will always keep you warm, opt for a turtleneck from HSN. Turtlenecks offer a bit more sophistication than a typical sweater, they make you look classier but you’ll feel cozier. The more you can over in winter to stay warm, the better. So, wearing a turtleneck is as close to wearing a blanket at work as we can get. Wear this under a jumper dress for a dressier option or under a sweatshirt for an added layer when running errands. Any way you style a turtleneck can never be wrong and don’t let anyone nerd shame you for doing so.

2. Suits

Now, unfortunately, we cannot wear sweatpants all winter (even when the temperature is in the single digits). For more formal occasions, like work, meetings, dinners out, holiday events, a suit set gives you all the easy of a sweatsuit with not having to even think about matching but gives you a dressier look when your sweatpants don’t cut it. Suit sets are very in trend right now, and basically, every store is capitalizing on this because its such a practical and classic trend. Suits got a bad rap for a while and they were strictly for the office, but wearing suit sets has become widely popular. The best part about a matching suit set is that they come in varieties and are interchangeable with basically everything in your closet. If you opt for a skirt and blazer combo, that skirt can be worn with a sweater when the blazer is too much. Or wear the blazer with jeans when you want a warmer look for your legs. Or piece them together for a chic business boss look. As a bonus with suits, the blazer is a jacket so you’ll be sure to stay warm in your freezing office.

3. Sweatsuits

This is not the Paris Hilton, Gucci couture velour sweatsuits of the 2000s. sweatsuits today have a more casual but put-together look. Although we all probably own a velour sweatsuit with rhinestones on the side, most of us are embarrassed to admit it, and we definitely don’t want to bring that look back.

The sweatsuits now are more toned down but often more fitted, giving more put together, less “I’m hungover from too many cranberry vodkas” look (even if you are!). With athleisure being such a huge trend, companies like Nike and Adidas have capitalized on the sweatsuit giving us looks that are casual, comfortable and still fashionable. They’re easy to throw on in winter when you don’t even want to think about what matches. If you get the full sweatsuit set, you won’t have to worry about matching those obscure shades of blue; Adidas already did it for you!

4. Hats

Hats are not just for when you ran out of dry shampoo, hats are a great way to keep you warm in winter while still looking good. So much of your body heat is lost through your head, so throwing on a beanie will keep you exponentially warmer and still looking cute. Wool brimmed hats and even berets can be a great option for when you need to keep warm but a beanie is too casual. These are also great for when your hair is just too staticky and not cooperating, spray a little hairspray in the top of the hat and you’ll be set.

5. Boots

Not only are boots the most practical shoes to wear in winter, but they are also one of the most fashionable. Boots are perfect, keeping your feet warm and covered if you have to walk in the snow. They have better traction and coverage for the unpredictable weather. Of course, you may need some snow boots for those super snowy days, getting a heeled pair or leather pair will ensure you’re set for when you can’t make a show change before heading from the office to a date. I don’t even wear any other shoes in winter; flats just don’t keep me warm enough and gym shoes always get wet in the snow. Luckily there are so many fashionable boot options to make sure we stay cozy in winter.

6. Scarves

Scarves have evolved from the little material we throw around our necks to an all-over body blanket. Scarves are the best way to stay warm in winter and they’re so versatile and easy to throw on and take off. Designers are even taking scarves and making a hybrid scarf/sweater, where it’s super oversized and covers more than just your neck. They’re basically a glorified fashionable blanket but sometimes that’s just what we need. Putting a belt over it with either jeans or leggings will make the outfit more fitted but will ensure you still are warm.

7. Trench Coats

Like I said earlier, the more you cover in winter the warmer you’ll be. But that’s a hard thing to do without looking bulky. Trench coats are a great way to add a little more coverage to your legs without looking sloppy. They are also a great transitional piece and pair well with any occasion of clothing. Coming in so many frames and colors, these will be something you pull out to wear time after time. Tan or black will match almost anything, but to stand out, getting a maroon or emerald green will set you apart from everyone else.

8. Over-the-Knee Boots

Over-the-knee boots are the best way to keep your legs covered and cute. Keeping your upper body warm in winter is pretty easy, with sweaters, coats and long sleeve shirts, you’ll easily be able to stay warm. It’s much harder to layer your lower body and still look cute, I don’t always like wearing leggings or tights and find it can even ruin an outfit. So over the knee boots are a great option that will cover a little more skin and I can wear longer socks to keep my legs warmer, but will still make for a cute outfit. For especially cold days throwing these on over top of jeans can make for a chic effortless look that will keep you cozy all day long.

9. Faux Fur and Sherpa

For the super cold days, sometimes your nice coats won’t even cut it. Faux fur and sherpa coats are nicer-looking than your really puffy snowmobile ready coat. They’re also way warmer than your thinner dress coats, that are often just longer blazers. These not only are the warmest coats you’ll find, but they’re also trendy and make you look fabulous. And during winter, who doesn’t need a little pick me up by feeling fabulous. You’ll feel like Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada, fashion-forward and fierce.

10. Leather

Leather and faux leather are very trendy right now. These fabrics also trap heat better than cotton and more opaque materials. Leather is a perfect option for something more casual and edge than a business or dressy look. Leather jackets are perfect for going out to dinner and bars, they’ll add to your look, not take away from it like a normal winter coat would. Leather pants are also a trendy option for when you’re tired of your same pair of jeans. They’re versatile enough to pair with essentially anything but also will make you look super badass when really you’re just staying cozy.
