10 Tips For McGill Course Registration

Course registration can be very stressful, especially when you are a new student and you don’t really know how to deal with it. Here we have a list of tips that can help you choose your classes the best way possible. Keep reading for 10 tips for McGill course registration!

1. Look forward to the courses you choose!

Do not choose the courses that you want at the last moment, everything will be full! Anticipation is the best way to get in the classes that you want.

2. Do not choose the same classes as your friends!

Of course, it’s nice to be with them in class to chill, but do you have the same interest for every course? You will have to make a choice here.

 

3. Always remember how many credits you need in each department depending on your program.

Yes, some courses can look attractive, but are they necessary to complete your degree?

4. Pay attention to the professor presenting the class.

Sometimes, a course is great depending of the professor who is in charge of if. You can ask on some Facebook group or on Rate my Prof.

5. Be sure that the topic interests you.

Don’t register to a class only because you need a course in this specific subject and it is the only one left, a minimum of interest is welcomed in each lectures.

6. Look at previous syllabus to know what to expect.

They can easily be found on internet, and even if professors makes changes, you will have a general idea of what the course will be about.

7. Be careful about the CNR if you use quick add/drop on Minerva.

Those are the number that are used for the course when you use quick add, and it’s easy to make a mistake. Be sure that you are registered for the course that you want. Otherwise, it’s a great tool for McGill course registration.

8. Be careful about prerequisites.

Some courses have them. It means that you need to take other courses at a lower level in order to take the course that you want after. You need to be aware of that.

9. Take contact with advisors.

They are the most qualified to help you to make your course selection if you have any hesitation with it.

10. Don’t forget that you have add/drop period!

Your life does not depend on the choice you make at the moment you register, you still have time to choose. And even when classes start, you have a period when you can still change your mind about courses.
