12 Bridezilla Horror Stories That Will Leave You In Shock

On Urban Dictionary, one of several definitions for the term “Bridezilla” includes “A soon-to-wed [woman] who abuse the idea that weddings are [her] ‘day.’ [She terrorizes her] bridal party and family members, makes greedy demands and breaks all rules of etiquette, to insure [she is] the single most important person on the planet from the time [she’s] engaged to the time [she gets] married.”

Don’t get me wrong, every bride wants her wedding day to be perfect with no mishaps or drama. Wedding planning is stressful. However, there are some brides who push those closest to her to the limit throughout the entire wedding planning process and even on the big day itself!

Please note that all of the Bridezilla Horror Stories listed below are ones told from the perspectives of bridesmaids, wedding planners, wedding vendors, and/or wedding guests.

Now, with all of that being said, let’s take a look down below and read these 12 Bridezilla Horror Stories That Will Leave You In Shock:

1. Bride’s Day, Bride’s Way:

“I attended the wedding of a family friend’s daughter, so didn’t really know her. It was a nighttime reception, so probably from 6pm-11 or 12, the ceremony immediately preceding.

When we went into the reception, we were expecting a buffet or something to be set up, but there was nothing. Later we found out that there was no food for the 120 guests, but rather a cheese spread, fruit platter, and vegetables with dip.

After an hour, people were really hungry and some people started to leave because they were expecting to be fed and didn’t want to stay.

When the bride found out, she ran across the room in her dress and blocked the doors, screaming about how everyone is ruining her wedding and screaming “Bride’s Day, Bride’s Way!” It was such a scene that her father had to peel her off the door (don’t know where the husband was, probably cowering) and people who didn’t know her that well all left.

I heard through the grapevine that she was inconsolable the entire night, got trashed and threw up (hopefully on her dress, but not sure).

Oh well, Bride’s Day, Bride’s Way!”

2. The Bridezilla Who Auctioned Off Spots In Her Bridal Party:

“My sister was always very spoiled by our parents since she’s the youngest of four kids and my mom had thought she wouldn’t be able to have any more kids.

Don’t get me wrong, she can be very sweet and caring too, but she’s just a very immature high maintenance person. Basically she got engaged a couple of months ago and will be getting married at the end of August.

Anyway she still hasn’t chosen her bridesmaids. Instead, she has sent out dozens of…invitations, to various girls. It’s an invite to attend and participate in a ‘bidding auction’ on the six spots in her bridal party.

Whichever six of all these chicks bid the most will be the bridesmaids. There’s also an auction for being her maid of honor. My sister and her fiancé are using the money to fund the wedding and honeymoon.”

                                                                                                                                       –Redditor SistersBridesmaid

This Bridezilla Story from Reddit garnered so much attention that it was covered by several media outlets like Elle and The NY Post.

3. The “Pure” Bridezilla:

“My best friend’s coworker is getting married later this year, and oh, man, this girl’s got some problems. She’s very religious and “pure,” which, if that’s your thing, is fine. Whatever. However, she told my friend last week that she doesn’t want anyone at her wedding who was born out of wedlock. Which includes my friend, who is the daughter of a teen mom.”

                                                                                                                                                        –Redditor Soundlife

4. This Bridezilla Told Many Lies Which Cost Her Several Friendships:

“The short story is that she lied.

She lied to the venue about the number of guests that were attending, effectively packing us like sardines.

She lied about having a “day-of” staff. That meant that all the groomsmen spent the day hanging flowers, running to get kegs and waters, pouring the champagne for guests, and setting up the entire venue the day before.

She lied to the hair and makeup personnel about the number of people who were obtaining services in order to get them to come to the site. This forced guests to get hair and makeup done in order for “the bride not to have to be charged extra.”

She lied to the catering about the number of guests – this caused them to run out of food and alcohol.

All in all, I think her lies saved her $1,500, but cost her close friendships since her attitude toward the whole situation was indignation instead of being apologetic.”

                                                                                                                                                –Redditor Yelloworchid

5. The Bridezilla Whose Grandmother Passed Away A Few Hours Before The Wedding:

“I had a friend that threw a temper tantrum, complete with screaming and foot stomping, because her grandmother had the audacity to die a few hours before her wedding. She said it would throw off the seating arrangements, because now there would be a big empty space.

She is currently half way through her 2nd divorce.”

                                                                                                                                               –Redditor Kidtendomom

6. This Bridezilla Physically Assaulted Her Shuttle Driver:

“The worst was when a bride was so upset that she couldn’t fit all of her bridesmaids on one shuttle back from the reception that she tried to physically assault the driver. He left her on the side of the road when she tried to bite him”

                                                                                                                                                       –Redditor M30w7h

7. This Bridezilla Made Her Maid of Honor Scrub The Reception Hall’s Floors:

“My best friend, who is normally very sweet and quiet, was quite rude when she got married. First she told me when I would be having her bridal shower (set a date without consulting me in any way) at my house, and what I would be serving. I was in the middle of my honors year of my bachelor degree in another city (15 hour drive away), and she set the date for right in the middle of exams.

She also planned on making all sorts of things for her wedding to save money (aisle runner, center pieces, arch, veil etc.). I came into town the night before the wedding, and she says to me: “I didn’t have time to get anything made, so I need you to do it.” I stayed up all night sewing and arranging flowers while she slept.

It was in the middle of winter and when we arrived at the hall the floor hadn’t been cleaned and was covered with salt stains. There was nothing to clean it with but a bucket and a cloth. So after staying up working all night, I had to clean a floor on my hands and knees. I was exhausted, sore and hated every minute of her wedding.

I didn’t talk to her for months after that.”

8. The Bride Who Was Still A Bridezilla Months After Her Own Wedding:

“My ex’s cousin managed to be a Bridezilla for months after her own wedding. She got married in late April in a very simple off-white strapless gown, which was the high-fashion choice of that year – simple lines all the way. And then she had her dress shortened to knee-length, and wore it to every family wedding she attended over the summer, and probably the non-family weddings, although I wasn’t at any of those to be sure. I saw her at no fewer than five weddings wearing a wedding dress – from the waist up completely indistinguishable from the bride.

She might still be wearing it and upstaging brides all over Ireland.”

                                                                                                                                                   –Redditor Plasticcastle

9. The Bridezilla Who Sent All of Her Female Wedding Guests A Specific Dress Code:

“The bride emailed the dress specifications to all the ladies:

  1. Blush/Champagne/Gold/Taupe family
  2. Floor length dress
  3. Can be shimmery/sparkly/sequined
  4. Column/empire waist/sheath shape — no mermaid style
  5. No white/gray/ivory/silver
  6. No color blocking
  7. Try to stay away from lace

“Should I note that these women are not in her wedding party at all, but guests?”

                                                                                                                                                   –Redditor MadMaxine

10. The Over-Prepared Bridezilla:

“This bridezilla was way too compulsive about getting everything done way ahead of time. She talked to each of us in the bridal party at least 16 months in advance, even though we’d all been in weddings previously and knew the usual timeline for things. She wanted one bridesmaid to reschedule her law exams and fly in so she could watch the bride try on dresses 14 months before the wedding. And when we didn’t respond to her phone calls or emails fast enough, she sent us FedEx letters overnight with her requests instead.”

                                                                                                                                   -WhatawagSBNy told The Knot

11. The Bridezilla Who Spent Her Wedding Day Yelling At All of The Vendors:

“I had a bride that openly spoke utter and complete s*** about the groom’s family (in front of his face). She would say that they were ‘crazy, un-classy, and annoying,’ and come the wedding, her family was actually the hardest family I ever had to deal with, and the groom’s family was absolutely lovely. On top of all this, the bride yelled at all of the vendors all day, resulting in the videographers leaving after just one hour of shooting, the photographer cried in the bathroom, and the groom and the brides’ cousins apologized to me for her behavior all night.”

                                                                                                                                         –Redditor Toront0_Planner

12. The Bridezilla With The Longest Walk Down The Aisle:

“While getting ready for my friend’s wedding, I asked the photographer what [was] the craziest thing he had seen. He told us that he was shooting a wedding recently where the bride took an hour, an entire hour, to walk down the aisle. I couldn’t comprehend that. He didn’t know why she did it. He said people looked confused, and were trying to see what was going on. She was apparently just strolling down the aisle, stopping, and smiling in the one spot for a few minutes before taking another step and doing the same thing.”

                                                                                                                                                 –Redditor Puritycontrol
