Best Netflix Originals You Need To Watch

Looking for a new show to binge? Well, Netflix is your place to go. Here are the Best Netflix Originals You Need To Watch, combining all different genres of some of my top TV picks you can only watch on Netflix!

1. You

You is one of the most well known Netflix originals, especially with the recent release of season 3. The show follows the main character Joe Goldberg who lives in New York City while working as a bookstore manager. This may make Joe seem like a regular guy living a normal life, but that is anything farther from the truth. Joe, played by Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley, goes to lengthy extents to insert himself into the lives of any woman he comes across and finds himself becoming obsessed with. This psychological thriller show truly has some of the craziest twists you’ll never see coming up, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself binging it in a couple days time.

2. Maid

One of the more recent Netflix originals that is also very bingeworthy is the show Maid. This drama stars main character Margaret Qualley, along with other fan favorites such as Nick Robinson and Andie MacDowell. The show follows a young woman named Alex who is a victim of domestic violence, trying to escape her current living situation with her abusive ex, with who she shares a 2 year old daughter. Alex will go to great lengths to find a better living situation for her daughter, leaving her to try out housekeeping at a maid’s service after being unemployed for quite some time. Beware, this show is a real tear jerker so make sure you have some tissues nearby for some of the most emotional scenes.

4. The Haunting Of Hill House

For any supernatural horror fans, you add The Haunting of Hill House to you list of Netflix originals to binge. The show follows a couple and their five children who move into Hill House with hopes to renovate the mansion. While living in the house for longer than anticipated, the family members begin to experience paranormal activities that will forever leave an impact on their lives. In fact, the show follows the children both while young and into their adult life, switching back and forth to past and present. After a tragedy occurs in their adult life, the children are forced to reunite with each other and their estranged father, finally realizing how much Hill House impacted their lives.

5. Outer Banks

If you haven’t heard of Outer Banks, this action packed Netflix original became a huge success after it was released during quarantine in 2020. The show takes place in the coastal town of Outer Banks, North Carolina, following the life of John B and his three other teenage friends. After the disappearance of his father, John B, with the help of his friends, goes on a search to find the missing treasure his father was once looking for. The town has a large social divide between the working class, known as the Pogues, and the wealthier residents, the Kooks.

6. The End Of The F***ing World

The End Of The F***ing World instantly became on of my favorite dark comedy-dramas from the list of Netflix originals as it was unlike other shows I’ve seen before in the most refreshing way. The show is based off an award-winning comic book series and follows two teenage outsiders, James and Alyssa, who meet one day while attending the same school. In season 1, the pair goes on a road trip to find Alyssa’s estranged father, while James secretly has a plan he wants to kill Alyssa, as he’s convinced he is a psychopath. However, much more unfolds after the pair form an unlikely bond during this trip, making for a crazy cliffhanger of an ending.

7. The Serpent

If you are into both crime and drama, you must check out The Serpent, which is based off a true story. The show is inspired by the crimes of real life French serial killer Charles Sobhraj, who murdered travelers exploring the hippie trail of South Asia during the 1970’s. Sobhraj was known for drugging then killing young travelers to steal their passports, with the help of his girlfriend Marie-Andrée Leclerc, after using his strong charisma and posing as a gem dealer, plus offering victims a place to stay at first. While Sobhraj continues to commit his crimes, a Dutch diplomat in Bangkok named Herman Knippenberg works to investigate the disappearance of a young couple who may be linked to Sobhraj.

8. Unorthodox

Another one of the Netflix originals based on a true story is the show Unorthodox, adapted by the memoir “Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots,” by Deborah Feldman. Both book and TV show document the life of a Hasidic Jewish woman who plans to flee her extremely religious family with hopes of exploring the rest of the world outside her Brooklyn community. The main character, Esther, leaves behind her arranged marriage and her entire family and friends to escape to Berlin in search of the freedom she had been longing for for so long. After arriving in a new place, Esther is taken in by a group of musicians, who she also shares a love of music with. However, Esther finds her past catching up to her, once members of her family discover her new location.

9. Ginny & Georgia

If you’re not into crime series or looking for something a little more lighthearted, I recommend watching Ginny & Georgia, a more recent series from Netflix. The show follows a young mother named Georgia Miller and her two children who are looking for a fresh start, so they move to a town in New England after being on the run for quite some time. The show gives you a look into the life of Ginny, Georgia’s angsty teenage daughter and her time spent at a brand new high school. However, things don’t necessarily go to plan for the Miller family, whose past begins to catch up on them in ways they never saw coming.
