The Best Places To Go In Melbourne If You Want To Pet Cute Dogs

If your friends are beginning to get tired of you spending hours at their place just to hang out with their pooch; find new friends. In all seriousness, who doesn’t love the calming effect and love you receive from our four-legged friends? However, if you find yourself unable to indulge in the costs of your recent puppy fever, I’ve compiled a list of the best places to go in Melbourne to surround yourself with our furry friends.

1. Enjoy an outdoor movie night at Moonlight Cinema.

Who doesn’t love an outdoor movie date with bae? However, if you don’t have one consider taking your fluffy friend in their place. Located in the Botanical Gardens, Moonlight Cinema even caters to our canine friends with their Doggie Cinema nights. Just check their website for a list of movie sessions and canine-specific nights. Another heads up, make sure to read the FAQ and rules concerning if your pooch is okay to come along.

Other popular cinemas include the Lunar Drive-In in Dandenong and the Dromana Drive-In. The Drive-In at Coburg is worthy of a mention but unfortunately, your cute dog is not allowed to leave the vehicle.

2. Burn some extra calories at Melbourne’s dog-friendly parks.

If you and your pooch have been becoming tired of seeing the same, bland scenery on your daily walks, try changing the environment up at one of Melbourne’s numerous dog-friendly parks. This is a great idea as it not only makes your friend happy about running free in an open field but also allows for some socialisation (and much petting) which is key for a happy, healthy dog. Don’t forget to check the park website (or local council site) about whether it is necessary to keep your dog on-lead at all times.

Some of my personal favourite dog parks include;

Albert Park

Which includes a special off-leash dog area for your pooch to roam freely!

Edinburgh Gardens in North Fitzroy

Ruffey Lake Park in Doncaster East

A personal favourite to celebrate your best friend’s birthday!

3. Pretend you’re on a tropical vacay at the beach.

If it’s been a tad too long since you got your tan on, consider heading to one of Melbourne’s beaches for a day of sun for you, and swim for your dog. This is another great way for both you and your dog to socialise – and also physically stimulate your pooch with some fun splash time in the water.

Although my pooch has not been to the beach yet (notorious sand eater, unfortunately), some of the best beaches include Altona Beach, Phillip Island, and Portsea. Melbourne has just as many dog-friendly beaches as it does parks so if you find these places a little out of way, try a quick map search to see the most convenient location for you!

4. Relax and unwind with a chai latte at one of Melbourne’s pet-friendly cafés.

Hot tip: many pet-friendly cafés are located in proximity to most of the pet-friendly beaches. Here are a few of Melbourne’s best;

Dog House in Collingwood (which also offers a dog-only menu)

Kew Nursey and Café

Moby in Armadale

After visiting at least one of these places, I can guarantee you will have been blessed with hugs n’ kisses from many of our four-legged friends. Just a quick note, if you’re bringing your own pooch along to these sites don’t forget to pack the essentials – poop bags, water, treats, and their leash of course! Some places have restrictions on how freely your friend can roam around – but other than that – I bid you to go enjoy some special bonding time and petting with your BFF; or make some new, adorable friends. So check out some of these places to go in Melbourne for the ultimate puppy fix.
