How To Prepare For Second Year At Uni

I started at Bond University at the beginning of this year, and it has definitely been a journey! There were a lot of things I wish I had known before embarking on my first year of University and so, undoubtedly, there are going to be a lot of things I wish I had known before beginning my second (and final) year! I thought it would be helpful for myself, and others who are going into their second year, to identify a number of things you should know so you can prepare for your second year at uni. Here is how to prepare for second year at Uni.

Stay committed

You may have successfully finished your exciting first year, but that doesn’t meant the hard work should stop. You need to remember that this second year is going to be more challenging so stay committed and be prepared to continue working hard.

Make the most of your holidays

This is important, especially if you are studying at Bond University, because holiday’s don’t come around too often. When they do, they speed past! Making the most of your holidays is different for each and every person, but it is important to remember that you do what you love and spend time with the people who love and support you!

Stay in routine

Staying in a routine is something that my parents have always drummed in me since my very first school holiday. Making sure you don’t jump from 10 p.m. bedtimes during the semester to the 3 a.m. lights-out on the holidays. Get to sleep around the same time. It’s important to try and get up around the same time every morning! I promise, doing this will help the transition back to uni easier.

Plan ahead

Before the semester officially starts, it is important to take some time to look through the study guide for each of your subjects. Make sure you know what is coming up for each class. Get your diary out and write the due dates in; it even helps to include each assignment is weighted so you can see what needs to be prioritised.

Remember why you are at University

After you have finished your year of firsts at university, heading back for your second year can seem a little dull. Try and remind yourself why you applied for university and what you want to get out of it! You aren’t going to have the best fun of your life every single day, but remember those times you have and hopefully another one will come soon enough.
