10 Amazon Prime Day Hacks You Need To Know

Amazon Prime Day is like Christmas morning for Prime users… only better. Amazon’s twist on Black Friday, Prime Day, happens only once a year – the second week in July. This year, Prime Day falls on July 16th, 2018. For one day, Amazon gives prime users access to select (crazy) deals from tons of different categories. Here is a list of 10 Prime Day hacks to score the best Prime Day deals!

1. Sign up for an Amazon prime free trial or Amazon Prime Student beforehand.

Prime Day is the perfect time to sign up for an Amazon Prime free trial. Take advantage of all the Prime Day deals, try all the (awesome) Amazon services that come with your Prime account then decide if you want to keep it or cancel.

If you are a current or incoming student with a .edu address, make sure to sign up for Amazon Prime Student. As a Prime Student member, you receive a six-month trial that includes Free Two-Day Shipping on over 50 million items, unlimited streaming of Prime movies and TV shows, unlimited photo storage with Prime Photos and more! After your six-month trial ends, you’ll get 50% off the Amazon Prime membership if you decide to sign up (the perfect Xmas present from mom and dad…)

2. Download the Amazon App.

With the Amazon App, turn on notifications for saved and watched deals to get notified when deals go live. Amazon will have thousands of deals on Prime Day starting every 5 minutes. Since you can view the Lighting deals a little bit ahead of time, make sure to “watch” the deal so you receive a notification when it starts. Don’t wait too long because some deals will most likely sell out within minutes.

3. Add Lightning Deals to your cart before the Prime Day sales go live.

If you already know that there is a deal you want to take advantage of, add the Lightening Deal to your cart even before the sale goes live. You will get notified when the deal is live and you can check out within seconds.

4. Make sure your payment information is up to date.

If you are not a frequent Amazon user, make sure that the card you have on file isn’t expired and that the shipping and billing addresses are up to date. Imagine missing out on a crazy laptop deal because you still have your mom’s old card on file and getting stuck at checkout? Yes it would suck. So make sure you have everything ready to go the day before so you can check out in minutes.

5. Consider getting Alexa for access to early & exclusive voice deals

Prime Day starts early for lucky Alexa users! Now through Prime Day, Amazon’s Alexa will offer more than 100 exclusive deals for those with an Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, Amazon Tap, Fire TV, or compatible Fire tablet. Amazon voice shoppers will also have early access to select Prime Day deals two hours before the general public, beginning July 10 at 7pm EST. If you’re interested in an Echo device, now would be the perfect time to take the plunge (check out the refurbished models for steep discounts)!

Secret tip: ask Alexa to sign you up for Prime and save $20 on your yearly membership fee…

6. Don’t miss the Prime Day TV deals.

The word is out… Prime Day TV deals will be UNREAL. So trust the hype and make sure you keep a close eye on TV deals to score the best one! Snagging one is likely to be tricky because inventory may be low.

7. Stay up late/get up early.

Prime Day isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon. While Prime Day starts on July 16th at 3pm EST, don’t expect the best deals to show up right away. Make sure to get up early and set up an alarm on July 16 and keep an eye on the app all day.

8. Expect a random selection

Amazon Prime Day isn’t the most organized sale. Lightning deals are typically all over the place with a handbag, next to grill brushes and the latest drone. However, the past year has shown that deals can be even better than Black Friday. But finding them can be a little daunting, therefore…

9. Make a plan!

Look for deals before Prime day kicks off, make a wish list and focus on “Hot Deal” categories. According to the latest info, the best deals will be found in the following departments:

  • Amazon’s in-house devices
  • Home Tech
  • Drones
  • Headphones
  • Power banks
  • Action cams

10. Keep an eye on the competition!

Even though Prime Day is the best, we can’t deny that competitors might have a trick or two up their sleeve to compete with the shopping giant. So keep an eye out for deals just in case.

Happy Prime Day!
