It’s well-known that Asian men are often under represented and overlooked in the Hollywood film industry. Only about 10% of actors in Hollywood are Asian, and only 2% of romantic leads go to Asian men. While Asian actors are often cast as these awkward, socially inept bookworms who cannot attain a woman, this list of Asian actors will have you begging to see them appear in the next steamy romcom sex scene.
As far as Asian men go, the Malaysian based actor, who happens to have the one accent that makes all American girls swoon (English), is probably most well-known for his role in Crazy Rich Asians (2018), where he played the adorably, sexy leading man Nick Young. He was also in the 2019 thriller A Simple Favor. Golding is surely becoming a rising star in the Hollywood scene, and we will undoubtedly see more of this handsome man in the near future.
Lee Byung-hun is a Korean actor known for his roles in the G.I. Joe movies Rise of Cobra (2009) and Retaliation (2013), as well as Red 2 (2013) starring Bruce Willis. He has made strides in a variety of genres in film throughout Asia, in addition to being a model. Not to mention Byung-hun’s physique is what wet dreams are made of.
Another Korean actor and singer who is most well-known for his role in the TV teen-drama Boys Over Flowers in which he played an arrogant, popular rich boy, vying for the affection of a girl, who instead has the eye for his best-friend. While he has found fame and success throughout Asia in his roles, he has yet to catch the eyes of the Western world, but with his great looks, he has become a teen-heartthrob throughout South Korea.
Henney is an American actor of Korean and Irish heritage. His accolades include X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), Seducing Mr. Perfect (2006), and The Last Stand (2013). In addition to being an actor, he has the cheekbones to ‘cut’ it as a model and has no trouble looking the part. He looks like the new all-American dream boy who has found fame across oceans in Korean dramas and American films. Henney has won numerous awards for his acting including the 2012 Outstanding Achievement in Acting for his film Shanghai Calling. Oh and he really loves dogs!
If you’re a horror fanatic, you may recognize Aaron Yoo from Friday the 13th (2009) and A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010). He has also had roles on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, ER, and Drop Dead Diva, just to name a few. Yoo has been in a variety of genres, not just horror, but comedy (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) and thrillers like Distubria (2007) and 21 (2008). While his character in the Friday the 13th reboot is that of a cocky-teenager, constantly getting rejected by the hot blonde, Yoo is now a 40-year old showstopper with devastatingly good looks, and a promising career not just in horror and comedic roles.
Nayyar, an Indian actor from England has made a name for himself as the selectively mute astrophysicist in the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory. This is a commonly stereotyped role for Asian actors to portray, but many can’t help fall in love with the adorable and shy nature of his character Rajesh Koothrappali. Nayyar could easily adapt to other roles, especially ones that allow him to turn on the charm. With the successful sitcom now wrapped, we hope to continute to say Nayyar in more shows and movies.
