Sometimes I get bored with my outfits, realizing my go-to’s have become way too frequent and my casual flare, lifeless. That’s when I know it’s time to switch up my style, which changes like the color of my hair (and if you know me that means quite often). Considering that the weather has been just as confused as me, each day is a constant battle. But it doesn’t have to be…
So my first tip has to be all about the layers. Layers come in handy because not only do they create new outfits by adding or removing, but also adapt with the changing weather. Was it cold when you left for class that morning, and somehow hit seventy degrees by the let out? May I suggest the flannel? It may be the most basic of the basic, but it’s crucial to every wardrobe. Even better, it goes with every season. No need to pack it away for summer, wrap it around your waist. It’s not about what you wear; it’s how you wear it!
Accessories can make or break an outfit, but always aim for make. Trust me there’s no outfit a printed scarf and some funky jewelry won’t amplify. No one will even notice that your shirt/pants combo has already made a recent appearance, twice. It’s all about welcoming distractions.
Basics are more important than you think. If every piece in your closet is a statement, than soon you’ll run out of things to say. Basics jeans and tees are essential to stylistic success. Your favorite retail store is bound to have a whole section dedicated to it. Pick up a few basics, and then add in pops of color.
It’s all about expressing who you are. If something makes you feel uncomfortable today, try it again some other time, or maybe never. Your style should always speak for you even when your mouth can’t. Just because someone else doesn’t agree with your stylistic choices doesn’t mean you should change it up. By being yourself, you empower someone else to do the same.
Whatever you do – remember, confidence is key. Don’t apologize if someone doesn’t understand your style, I mean, it’s not like they’re the one wearing it anyway. The best way to add an extra pop of brilliance to your style is to rock what you’ve got with confidence!
