10 Studio Ghibli Merchandise Products That Are Just Too Cute For Words

If you’re not already a Studio Ghibli fan, do yourself a favor and pause reading this article. Do some research and watch some of the most heart-touching Japanese animation films of all time, such as Academy-award winning Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Kiki’s Delivery Service. Once you’ve finished watching some of these films, get back to this article.

Studio Ghibli is a Japanese animation production company that produces family-friendly, heart-touching animation films that are fit for all ages, much like the Walt Disney Company. The company creates films with characters that are so easily loveable, with storylines filled with heart, tear-jerking concepts and animation and musical composition that resembles art.

The Japanese are well known for creating animation and storylines that are just executed so well and delivered so beautifully that it is just hard not to fall in love with them. And of course, being a Japanese production company, the merchandise products available for the films is undeniably adorable. So, without much further ado, here are 10 Studio Ghibli merchandise products that are just too cute and adorable for words!

1. Soot Sprite Glass Mug

From the classic 1988 film My Neighbour Totoro, these adorable little soot sprites instantly captured our hearts. When Satsuki and Mei are eager to venture their new home in the countryside of Japan, they find that the upstairs is filled with tiny little soot sprites. But these soot sprites aren’t like regular soots, they have eyes and can hide quite easily from the wandering eye.

Instantly, these little soot sprites captured our hearts with their quick wit and adorable little eyes. The merchandise available for these little soot sprites is actually quite endless, but this glass mug reminds us of how quick and slick they are.

2. Totoro Lunch Bag

If you’re a little bit familiar with the Japanese culture, you’ll know that school kids carry lunch bags instead of lunch boxes. And we are definitely jealous of that idea. It seems much more convenient to carry around a lunch bag rather than a lunch box, as this can easily hold more food items and carry a box inside if need be.

And this Totoro lunch bag is just too adorable for words. Totoro is the titular character from the film My Neighbour Totoro, who seems scary and large at first, but the audience grows to love him just as our two protagonists Mei and Satsuki do. We wish we had a friendly neighbor like Totoro to help us out of trouble! Well, we could bring him that much closer with this gorgeous Totoro lunch bag!

3. Kaonashi Gel Pens

From the award-winning 2001 film Spirited Away, one of the more popular characters from the film included Kaonashi, otherwise known as “No-Face” has ironically become the primary ‘face’ of Spirited Away merchandise!

The Japanese are well known for creating pens and stationery that is almost too beautiful to even use. And in this case, not only are these No-Face gel pens too cute, but they’re also just too cute to use!

4. Luminous Kodama Figures

Studio Ghibli films are well known for creating loveable talking characters, but they are also absolute masters at creating little animalistic creatures that are equally adorable, but do not speak! The Kodamas, or the little tree spirits from the 1997 film Princess Mononoke, are just too cute for words. They are small and light the way of spirits, with no two appearing exactly alike.

And these little Kodama figures are not only just as adorable, but they also light up and are just the way to bridge the real human world with the spirit world!

5. Jiji Planter

From the 1989 film Kiki’s Delivery Service, the character Jiji is the stereotypical wise black cat sidekick to the coming of age witch, and in this case, that’s our titular character Kiki. Jiji is one of the few Studio Ghibli animal characters that can actually speak, perhaps due to the film’s magical plot.

Kiki’s best friend and sidekick is Jiji, who is very wise and gives Kiki advice, and of course very adorable with his little red bow tie. And this little Jiji planter is the perfect addition to your garden!

6. Calcifier Spatula

From the 2004 film Howl’s Moving Castle, the calcifier is a fire demon who is the source of all the castle’s magic as well as the power to all the castle’s movement. It sounds scary but actually, he is quite adorable. And when you put it into some merchandise, this little fire demon is all kinds of cute.

The calcifier is thus the perfect addition to your kitchen utensils, as you’ll feel like you’re cooking up a storm with this cuter than ever calcifier spatula.

7. Castle Robot Necklace

From the 1986 film Laputa: Castle in the Sky, the castle robot soldiers are like tragic addition to this beautiful storyline. When Sheeta and Pazu wander through Laputa, they come into contact with a large robot soldier and find that his army has slowly decomposed over the years.

He is the lone robot soldier and our hearts soar with him when he hands Sheeta a small flower from the Laputa kingdom. And this little terrarium necklace featuring the castle robot inside a little bottle is just so adorable and sweet.

8. Ponyo in a Bottle

From the 2008 film Ponyo on the Cliff By The Sea, who could go past little Ponyo in a bucket being carried around by her new friend? Part fish and part human, little Ponyo is absolutely adorable and for this very reason what better way to showcase her than in a little bottle?

9. Vintage Totoro Pillow Cover

We know we’ve included a lot of Totoro merchandise, but we can’t help it! This film simply has the cutest little characters or little Totoros ever. And this cushion cover with a vintage design of the Totoro character and one of his little friends in a wreath of florals and foliage and little soot sprites is absolutely perfect. This cushion cover would fit perfectly on a bedspread with similar colors, such as blush pinks and soft greens.

10. Assortment Socks

Nothing says cute and statement these days like novelty socks. And why not add some Ghibli prints to your collections with these adorable little assortment socks?

In a pack of four, these socks come with prints of Studio Ghibli classics such as My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service. With a background of a significant scene of the film, these are not only cute but a great addition to your novelty sock collection if you don’t already have one.
