10 Reasons to Love the Fall at SJU

Autumn is the greatest time of the year, especially in New York City. Winters are tormentingly cold, summers are disgustingly humid and the spring doesn’t really exist anymore because of climate change. Here are ten reasons why nothing beats the fall at SJU!

1. Fall is the least rainy time of year in New York.

So you can look forward to almost nothing but sunshine and cool breezes. Lay out on the Great Lawn, enjoy your walk across campus, play tennis on the tennis courts near the parking garage (which I assume are just open to everyone).

2. St. John’s has trees and trees have leaves and in the fall the leaves on the trees change colors!

It’s beautiful!

3. Once the summer is officially over, people stop going outside.

The crowds die down and campus gets a little bit more peaceful.

4. For most people, Thanksgiving provides a much needed break ahead of finals.

Oh, and Thanksgiving at Monty’s is the best food and service you’ll ever receive there.

5. Halloween is, arguably, the greatest holiday of the year.

So don’t skip out on getting dressed up and going out!

6. Nothing beats the Feast of San Gennaro.

It’s held every September in Little Italy, but St. John’s DAC equivalent is not too bad, especially if you don’t have the time or money for the real deal. Indulge in the free zeppoles, garlic knots and corn.

7. If the order of this list wasn’t arbitrary, then fall clothing would be number one.

Summer clothing is great, sure, but it is not nearly as versatile as fall clothing. You can wear anything from tee shirts to coats without judgment; it’s great.

8. Tip Off! And SJU Basketball comes back in the fall!

9. No one can deny that as the summer progresses, we all get a little restless.

Summer break is great, but so is returning to everyone you left behind in the spring.

10. Christmas lights!
