10 Ways To Make The Most Out Of Your Final Year At Uni

The final year at uni is the most stressful, but also the most fun. You’re filled with emotions about the future and about what your leaving behind. The truth is, you’re going on to bigger and better things so appreciate all the time you have left. Here are 10 ways to make the most out of your last year at uni:

1. Do not over commit

This is a busy year (seeing as it’s your final year at Uni) so you want to remain organised and avoid taking too much on. The temptation in final year is to sign up to everything but you won’t always have the time. Focus on doing what you’re doing and doing it really well!

2. See all the sights you want to see

It was only in my final year that I began to realise all of the sites in my university city that I hadn’t had time to see. I recommend taking a morning or afternoon out of your week to go see the sights before you leave.

3. Spend Time with friends

Your studies should always come first but make your friends a close second in your final year. Everybody will be busy with essays and dissertations but try and keep one evening free to catch-up and do something fun.

4. Time Management is Key

This is when your diary is going to be your best friend. Be sure to prioritise your work but pencil in some fun at the movies or a games night in with the flat mates. That way, you know it’s coming and you can get your work done ahead of time.

5. Join a society

Join a club that you’ve always wanted to join but just make sure it’s not too much commitment and won’t affect your studies. Most societies are keen to prioritise uni work over the club so make sure you let them know what you can and can’t do.

6. Go see a Uni sports game

Support your uni one last time by going to a sports game with friends. I never made time for this throughout my studies but I wish I had. The atmosphere is so fun, grab a beer and a hot dog and get in the spirit!

7. Apply for internships and jobs as early as possible

You’ll have a lot going on so plan the internships you want to apply for and write the deadlines in your diary. Make time for these as early as possible to minimise stress later on.

8. Treat yourself to me time.

It’s easy to forget about yourself amidst all the chaos of final year so make sure you put give some time to yourself. Make a relaxing bubble bath or get your nails done to give you some incentive to push through!

9. Go see careers advisor

Now is the best time to make use of your uni’s career team. It’s ok if you still don’t know what you want to do, but chatting with someone about it is sometimes all it takes to provide a bit of clarity.

10. Enjoy it.

Whether you’re busy writing essays, sight-seeing or hanging out with friends make sure you enjoy every second of your final year. You’re moving up and on in the world so have the most fun and cherish each memory you’re making!
