Presentations can seem daunting for everyone whether you’re a seasoned professional doing them on a daily basis or a fresh faced university entry. The key is to remain calm and not picture your audience in their underwear and give this article a read through. I hope that by the end of the list you’ll have settled your nerves and smashed your university presentation using some of these tips. Here’s tips for university presentations!
Sometimes you can get a bit caught up in the moment and swept away by a see of nerves just before presenting but it is important that you remember to take deep breaths before, during and after your presentation to calm your nerves and adrenaline levels.
It’s always a good idea to have a glass of water within reach when giving your presentation. You never know when your mouth is going to start feeling a little dry with all the talking you’re going to be doing.
Before presentation day I would always advise that you take a bit of time to prepare some note cards with key phrases on so you have something to help you out besides the notes written on your slides. Plan what you’re going to say, when you’re going to change slides, if you need to draw close attention to any particular details on the slides. If you have these all written out on some cards for you it will help you to make sure you don’t miss out on anything and ensure you don’t start talking about something that your audience can’t see.
Ask a friend or family member if you could spare a few moments of their time and present it to them as you would to your lecturer. This can help you get a sense of timing and if you need to re-visit any areas to make sure your audience really understand what topic you are going to be presenting on. I’m sure they would be more than happy to let you present to them if it means helping out with your grades.
Finally, don’t forget to relax. Tensing up during presentations will make you seem a bit robotic and you want to be coming off like a human being without a dried up mouth. So just remember to take some deep breaths, take a sip of water and relax.
