The Sex Ed Youtubers You Need To Subscribe To

It’s no secret that the education system has let a lot of us down regarding sex ed. Whether it was filled with graphic images of STDs, abstinence only or didn’t even touch on consent, there’s certainly a lot more to be done. Even from the basic level of sex ed we get parents are still allowed to withdraw their children from it! Which makes no sense! Whilst we wait for the Department Of Education to abide by their plans to start a more comprehensive consent based sexual education (don’t hold your breath) here are some of the best sex ed Youtubers you need to subscribe to- we could all stand to learn a little more!

Sexplanations

Sexplanations is always my first suggestion when anyone asks me where to go. Doctor Lindsey Doe is a clinical sexologist providing sex positive shame free comprehensive sex education in over 290 upbeat and fun videos that tend to focus on one topic and not exceed five minutes. If you’ve got a burning question (or body part) chance is Lindsey has already covered it- find your answer and then subscribe to start widening your sexual understanding.

Stevie Boebi

Stevie Boebi is a wonderful example of a sex ed Youtuber (and massive crush of mine). Her channel features a range of personal to lighthearted videos including her current series Lesbian Sex 101 complete with step by step how to’s. Compulsory sex education is bad enough in the limited knowledge it gives, but almost every instance ignores LGBTQ+ sex ed entirely. Stevie is working to rectify this for women who have sex with women who are often misinformed or confused and unable to access the information they need to have safe and comfortable sex.

Ash Hardell

Ash Hardell channel features the series (now book!) The ABC’s of LGBT which focuses on defining and demystifying definitions of sexualities and genders. Their channel also features beautifully made videos on their own gender queerness and consistently features different queer creators talking about their own identity. The perfect LGBTQ+ resource for those in and out of the community.

Watts The Safe Word

Watts The Safe Word is one of the more advanced sex ed YouTubers, not quite the thing you’d expect to be taught all about in high school at least. This channel features predominately kink based informative videos such as BDSM bondage how to’s and different fetishes explained. The entire channel is sex positive and shame free and you’re bound to come across something you probably have never even thought of. Whether it’s for exploring your own sexuality or simply a curiosity to learn this channel with have something for you.

Hannah Witton

Hannah Witton’s book, ‘Doing It: Let’s Talk About Sex’ is the book I wished existed when I was in my first years of sexual education: chatty, comprehensive and a fun array of guest authors of other familiar Youtube names and never once over or under explaining. Her channel is no different, although also featuring vlogs, monthly favourites and other content peppered through is sex based videos always informative and succient as well as her series ‘The Hormone Diaries’ getting real about the effects of going off or on different birth control.

Calum McSwiggan

Calum McSwiggan’s channel provides essential dialog of gay sex education, something that is severely lacking from the education system. His channel contains candid and interesting discussions away from any shame cultures with real stories shared. I also have to shout out Calum for his personal service to me (which I’m sure he’s unaware of) of when he and a group of fellow tall friends stood in front of me at Brighton Pride and provide some much needed shade from the sun ( I didn’t even realise I recognised him until after he’d walked away!).

Shan Boody

Shan Boody’s channel provides discussions of all kinds of sex and love and advice from Shan herself. From destigmatising STI’s and how to describe an orgasm to handling jealousy and allowing yourself to be sexy- there’s something for everyone and something we can all stand to learn in a friendly, open and sex positive space. She is one of the best sex ed YouTubers.
