8 Reasons To Quit Cigarettes And Move Onto An E-Cig

The dangers associated with smoking cigarettes are well known, but giving them up can be incredibly difficult. Many people are choosing to make the switch to e-cigs to help them to quit.

Check out the list below of our reasons why you should quit cigarettes and move onto an e-cig.

1. No tar or carbon monoxide

E-cigarettes do not produce tar or carbon monoxide, which are substances found in traditional cigarettes containing tobacco. Whilst the liquid and vapour in e-cigs can contain potentially harmful chemicals that are also found in cigarettes, their levels are much lower according to the NHS. E-cigs are by no means risk-free but they carry fewer risks than smoking cigarettes.

2. Still contain nicotine to satisfy your addiction

Nicotine is the substance in cigarettes that makes them addictive and compared to the other chemicals in them, it is less harmful. Many people are choosing to use e-cigs as a way to quit smoking altogether because the liquids used still contain nicotine to satisfy their addiction, without the high amounts of other toxic chemicals.

E-cig liquids can also be bought in different strengths so you can be clear on how much nicotine you’re smoking and slowly cut down.

3. Vapour isn’t harmful to others

Secondhand smoke from smoking cigarettes is a real danger to those around you and there is lots of evidence to support this. However, there is currently no scientific evidence to say that the vapour produced when smoking an e-cig is harmful to others.

4. They’re rechargeable

E-cigs are powered by rechargeable batteries so you don’t need to worry about forgetting your lighter ever again. They can be charged not only in a mains plug socket, but in your car and via the USB port on your computer as well.

5. Large range of flavours

There are so many different flavours of e-cig liquids to choose from compared to the choices you have when it comes to cigarettes. Liquids range from fruity flavours such as banana and strawberry to sweet treats such as raspberry ripple and mint ice cream. There are also lots of traditional tobacco flavours, as well as menthol.

6. E-cigs smell better

The smell of cigarettes lingers on your breath, hair and clothing long after you’ve finished smoking, not to mention the smell they create while they’re being smoked. The clouds produced while vaping may not be scentless but they usually smell way better than the stale smell left behind after smoking a traditional cigarette.

7. Cheaper than cigarettes

Smoking traditional cigarettes is not only bad for your health, but it is incredibly expensive too. Action on Smoking and Health reported that a person who smokes twenty-a-day will spend roughly £3000 per year on cigarettes.

If you decide to start vaping, the initial cost of buying a starter kit and liquids will be the biggest expense and usually come to around £30 to £40 for a basic one including liquids. It’s estimated that each month after this, it costs the average smoker £30 to £60, depending on their habit.

8. Better for the environment

According to National Geographic, e-cigs are better than traditional cigarettes for the environment. Cigarette butts thrown onto pavements can be extremely harmful to the animals that find them thinking that they’re food. Furthermore, it takes cigarette butts anywhere from 18 months to 10 years to decompose. During this period of time, the filters are still full of tar and nicotine, which is toxic to animals.

They can also be washed into drains and end up in the ocean where they can release these chemicals and can be eaten by birds and fish.
