During university you’re constantly faced with areas of inspiration, may that be meeting new people, studying your chosen subject, or simply reading a book. However; there can be times where you may feel unsure of your chosen path. Take a night off from the party scene and watch a film that could inspire you! Here are 10 inspirational films perfect for uni students!

1. Good Will Hunting

This is a story about self discovery and facing the truth. Starring Matt Damon, Minnie Driver and the late Robin Williams, this film follows Will Hunting, an unrecognized genius and janitor at M.I.T., on his path to find his direction in life. I can assure that this film will not only make you laugh, but cry as well.

2. The Godfather Part I and II

This gangster trilogy has won award upon award throughout the years and never fails to disappoint (apart from the third installment, that was a let down). Francis Ford Coopela’s classic style of direction, along with the superb acting of Al Pacino and Marlon Brando, makes for a master piece. The theme of morals over family loyalty come to play in this film, which with the current state of the world, never seems to age.

3. Billy Elliot

Directed by Stephen Dalry, this film documents the life of a young boy in a working-class environment in the North of England. While his father encourages him to box, he realizes his love and talent for ballet. This film encourages self-discovery, even if your parents don’t approve of your passions.

4. Educating Rita

Rita is married and lives a largely mundane life, but craves something more. While returning to University under the guidance of a professor, Rita discovers who she really is outside the expectations of her peers.

5. Something’s Gotta Give

This comedy featuring Jack Nicholson and Diane Keating not only makes one cry with laughter, but it forces you to pause for a moment and realize that sometimes life throws unexpected challenges your way. While the protagonists may be slightly senior, the plot of the film has no age limit.

6. 10 Things I Hate About You

This movie is a nineties classic coming of age film about heartbreak and young love. While this film is set in an American High school, it shares lessons that will stay with you for the rest of your life, while giving you major fashion envy!

7.  Mystic River

Mystic River is a film about friends who grew up in working class Boston that drift apart after a terrible tragedy. However, years later they reconnect due to brutal events. The director Clint Eastwood portrays a thrilling story line based on family, friends and the loss of innocence. This film portrays that true friendship never dies.

8. The Mona Lisa Smile

Starring Julia Roberts and Kristen Dunst, Roberts plays an Art professor attempting to break the boundaries of the conservative female only University, Wesley college. A series of unique story lines follow her students and the challenges they face as young women in a misogynistic world. The lives of these educated women will definitely inspire some serious girl power!

9. Pulp Fiction

Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, this film has nothing to do with being a University student. However, you simply must watch this classic neo-noir crime thriller.  John Travolta certainly has come a long way since Grease in this outrageously violent gangster film.

10. Little Women

Whether you read the book or watched the film, this movie is a must. Based on the Louisa May Alcott novel, this film follows the tale of the March sisters and the struggles they each face. While the film is set directly after the civil war in America, the adversities of each sister is timeless.
