Having A Bad Day? Here’s 8 Things That Will Lift Your Spirits

Every once in a while, all of us can feel a little down. It may seem as though there’s nothing that you can do to cheer yourself up, so instead most of us tend to just wait it out and hope to feel better in the morning. However, it doesn’t have to be this way! There are a number of different ways in which you can cheer yourself up. Are you having a bad day? Check out our list of the 8 things that will lift your spirits in no time:

1.Cuddle an adorable animal

This may sound strange but believe me, there’s no better way to cheer yourself up than to surround yourself with cute pets! If you’ve got one of your own, then you’re in luck – just cuddle your dog or cat and you’ll feel better in no time. Otherwise, you could ask a friend or maybe just head to the local dog park. There will be plenty of dogs for you to pet and they’ll be more than happy to see you.

2.Watch your favourite childhood movie

Nothing cheers me up better than going through my old favourite cartoons, especially the Disney ones. They not only bring back happy memories from my childhood but also lift up my spirits with their cheerful tunes and happy endings. Maybe grab some of your favourite snacks and curl up for a fun movie night (either by yourself or with a friend!).

3.Go outside

One of the easiest and fastest ways to lift your spirits when you’re having a bad day is to simply head outside. Soaking up the sun is bound to fill you with joy and make you forget all of your troubles. Even if it’s not bright and sunny outside, you could still take a long walk to clear your mind and help you concentrate on what matters. I find that I am able to think better after I’ve taken a stroll, which usually helps me solve all of my problems.

4.Listen to some nature sounds

Nature in general can be really calming, but if you happen to live in a city or just far away from any wildlife, you could substitute it with some nature sounds. Just go on YouTube and find a video of forest sounds or chirping birds, which will instantly lift your spirits. Another option is the sound of pattering rain – it not only makes me feel better but also tends to help me fall asleep.

5.Read a book

Even if you’re not into books, you can’t deny that sometimes a book can really take your mind off of things. Personally, I love delving into the pages of an exciting thriller or adventure novel whenever I’m feeling a little down. By immersing myself in another world, I am able to forget about my own and ease all of my worries. There are so many different books out there that you’ll inevitably be able to find something to suit your interests.

6.Write in your diary

Writing your thoughts down is a tried and tested way of getting things off of your chest. If you’re having a bad day, you could easily cheer yourself up by writing something down in your diary. Don’t worry if you don’t actually keep a diary – you can just write everything down in any notebook that you can find. Once you’ve finished, you could read over your thoughts and help yourself figure everything out.

7.Smile!

Yes, it really is that simple! Smiling can help lift your spirits when you’re having a bad day. If you can’t force yourself to smile or you feel as though it’s unnatural, you could find some funny videos online or just look at cute pictures of small animals. Make use of whatever makes you smile and you won’t be disappointed.

8.Listen to some music and dance

Just blast some of your favourite tunes and shake those hips! Music has an incredible effect on us and can instantly cheer us up whenever we’re feeling down. It doesn’t matter what your favourite genre is – if you can’t really dance to it, then simply sing along. It’s a great way to have some fun.
