Trim the duct tape according to the size of the dry erase board and smooth it over the edges. That’s it! easy right? Gather up all your polaroids you have of your friends, family, and all of your best memories and hang them all over your walls with only two, very cheap, items. Some twine and some wooden clothes pins. Attach the clothespins to the twine and use however many you want to hold your pictures then hang both ends of the twine on your wall with some scotch tape.Ta da! There you have it, a cute DIY dorm decoration that brings a little reminder of home.

Here’s what you’ll need:

3. Paint your own beautiful tapestry to tie everything together

You don’t need to spend around 20 pounds just to buy some boring piece of tapestry from ASDA to hang in your dorm room like everyone else in your accommodation. You can just make one on your own. All you need is a piece of laminated drop cloth and a painting kit. Go crazy, invite all your friends over and make a painting party out of it. The end result will be a beautiful piece of tapestry that you can hang over your bed that is filled with memories from home.

4. Keep a dream board to remind of your dreams

A good way to remind yourself of all your goals and dreams that you’ve made when you were younger is by keeping a dream board in your room. The dream board will have little memories of home from when you were younger and full of dreams and university will be the step that starts them. DIY your dream board by decorating your own colourful canvas. All you need is a cork board and some cut outs to stick it on to make your own!

5. Decorate your own personalised frames

Forget boring old wooden or black frames to put the pictures of your loved ones in. You need something more creative, more artistic, more aesthetically pleasing to fit into your room. Something that’s more you. Try decorating your own frames instead with some paint, crystals, ribbons, whatever you want just so each one can have a little memory attached to it besides the pictures. You can even put motivational quotes, cute notes, and positive messages to brighten up your room, making it one of the best DIY dorm decorations!

Hopefully these little DIY tricks can help brighten up your dorm room and make it feel a little bit like home. Don’t forget that this new part of your life, starting university, is all about making a new home with new people and a new life. So even if your dorm room isn’t quite as cozy as home, it’ll still be something that you’ve built up and that’s all that matters. Hope you’ve enjoyed!
