A genuine hidden gem, the university’s botanic garden boasts seven acres of stunning greenery, housing over 6000 plant species, a hazelnut tunnel, orchid house, woodland walk and a romantic 1930s Japanese bridge. What’s more romantic than mulled wine, fairy wheels, mince pies and mistletoe? It’s like someone took Love Actually and The Notebook and smushed them together and quite frankly, I love it.
Visit the funfair, go on a few rides, maybe win a teddy-bear or two, before the fireworks start later on in the evening. The display never fails to amaze the thousands that turn out, so find a good spot in the crowds, cuddle up and enjoy the show together.
