The Best Places To Watch The Sunset In London

One of the few benefits of London smog and pollution is a beautiful hazy sunset- a literal silver lining. Pictures of multi-hued sunsets fill our Instagram feeds, and whilst capturing a good one on the walk home is particularly satisfying, to get the best picture you need a guaranteed location for your sunset snap. Try these prime places to watch the sunset in London!

1. By City Hall On The South Bank

City Hall is the London Mayor’s Office, that rounded glass spectacle by the river on The Queen’s Walk. Whilst most London views are spectacular from high up, a glimpse of the sunset by City Hall gives you a great view with your feet still on the ground. The Walkie Talkie building is on the skyline, which has been known to be quite dazzling (a reference to the time the skyscraper melted a car!)

2. Sky Garden

This is one of the Speaking of the Walkie Talkie building, the Sky Garden is one of the many charming spots in London that is also delightfully free. The large floor-to-ceiling windows of the garden give you a gorgeous panoramic view over the city. Booking in advance for the Sky Garden is essential, so be sure to book for the right time slot to be sure to catch the sunset!

3. Primrose Hill

An obvious spot but an unceasingly romantic spot nonetheless. The spot is lovely during the day but so much better by night. Bring a picnic blanket and watch the sun set over Regent’s Park’s London Zoo. This is one of the best places to watch the sunset!

4. Parliament Hill

Ooh a contender hill. Parliament Hill sits on the Hampstead Heath and is in a very nice part of town. The hill tends to get busy during twilight hours so bag your seat early after a day of wildlife watching at the park.

5. Waterloo Bridge

Waterloo Bridge gives you great views during the day so can just imagine how magical the view is at night. Another spot by the South Bank; you’re probably seeing a trend in this list! Waterside views really do make all the difference.

6. The O2

You’re in luck because the O2 does a specific Twilight Climb! London’s official title isn’t the City of Lights but it certainly still is! Join the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Gordon Ramsay and Muse who have also climbed the Arena!

7. Putney Bridge

Very lowkey but last light at Putney Bridge is the best the south-west has to offer. The bridge links Putney and Fulham as well as it links light and dark. The reflection off the water makes this one of the best places to watch the sunset!

8. By the ‘Girl With a Dolphin’ Statue

A pretty statue designed by David Wynne and right near all the rubber dinghies up at St Katherine’s Dock as well as the glorious Tower Bridge in the background. Not a half-bad place to take a sunset selfie.

9. Emirates Air Line

To use the cable cars all you need is your Oyster Card! The Air Line can give you a wonderful little journey high over London city, and give you a gorgeous sunset view, in your own private cable car if you’re lucky enough! In my opinion, it’s much better than a trip up the London Eye, and much cheaper too.

10. The Orbit

Whatever your opinions on this swirly-wirly East London monument, the view from the top is quite something to behold. The best bit is that you can use the slide to get back down!

The Oxo Tower, the Duck and Waffle restaurant and The Shard are all great spots too! Whether you’re looking for a stunning selfie or a banging profile picture, all these nightfall seats are worth staying out for.
