When it comes to ear bling aka Earrings, there are tons of styles and colours to pick from so it can be difficult to know where to start. The name of these earrings originally come from their similarity to multi-tiered light fittings. Chandelier earrings originated in Turkey, the Middle East, and India spreading to the West in the 18th century. Aesthetically they are large, dazzling and usually heavily embellished with a pattern.

This style of earing was developed by Parisian jeweller Yvonne Leon and adopted by just about everyone, ear jackets – also known as lobe earrings – have been a staple of fashionable earring collections for a few years. Consisting of a stud front and an adornment which fastens to the back and seems to float just underneath the earlobe, they range from genteel curves of diamonds or pearls to more edgy and quirky designs.

From the French pendre meaning “to hang”, they’re also known as drop earrings and consist of one or several components hanging from the stud. More slender than Chandeliers, they can be long or short, pared back or elaborate, and lend an elegant touch to any look.

Needing no introduction, Hoop earrings have a long history. Varying in size, they are the oversized styles of hoops and the minuscule “huggy” hoops as well as all of the other varying sizes in between.
