Upcoming Albums You Want To Give A Listen

In the age of everything being digital and therefore streamed, it’s never too late to discover new music, even if said music is not a typical genre that you are used to hearing/enduring (don’t be afraid, new experiences are usually a good thing…usually). So, with this fabulous knowledge in mind, I present to you various upcoming albums that you ought to give a listen, even if it scares you.

Hexed – Children Of Bodom

Initial Release Date: March 8, 2019

Out of all the upcoming albums on this list, this is probably my most anticipated entry. Hexed is the tenth forthcoming studio album by Finnish melodic death metal band Children of Bodom and it will be the first album to feature guitarist Daniel Freyberg (since Roope Latvala left the band in 2015).

Over the years, the band has incorporated numerous diverse musical styles and are, unsurprisingly, one of Finland’s best selling artists of all time (pretty impressive for a metal band, if I do say so myself). As well, if you can stomach this album, I would suggest listening to their entire discography, you would be in for a real treat.

The Destroyer Part 1 – TR/ST

Initial Release Date: April 19, 2019

The Destroyer Part 1 will be the third studio album by the Canadian electronic music project TR/ST, which is fronted by Robert Alfons. Interesting enough, for the first time in the group’s history, it will be the first half of a two-part album with the same name. As noted, it is set to be released on April 19 through House Arrest Records and Grouch Records. The album features contributions from Maya Postepski, his collaborator on TR/ST’s debut studio album as well as other notable musicians.

Just so you can have a better idea of what to expect, TR\ST (pronounced as Trust) is dark electropop project formed in 2010.

Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 1 – Foals

Initial Release Date: March 8, 2019

Oh look, another band deciding to split up their upcoming album into two parts. That said, Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 1 is the fifth studio album by British band Foals, set to be released.

As mentioned, this album is considered the first half of a two-piece project, being concluded by their subsequent sixth studio album Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 2, which will be released in the fourth quarter of autumn 2019. Moreover, this will be their first album not to feature founding member and bassist, Walter Gervers (since leaving the band in 2018).

Ategnatos – Eluveitie

Initial Release Date: April 5, 2019

Announced on the band’s official Instagram page (how professional), this album is scheduled to be released on April 5. And, out of all the upcoming albums on this list, this one is my second most anticipated.

And now, a tad bit of context; Eluveitie is a Swiss folk metal band from Winterthur Zurich and founded, in 20o2, by frontman Chrigel Glanzmann. Essentially, Eluveitie characterize themselves as a “new wave of folk metal”. Likewise, the band’s style encompasses hallmarks of melodic death metal united with the conventional melodies of Celtic music. (Sounds fancy, does it not?) They tend to utilize traditional European instruments, including, but certainly not limited to, the hurdy-gurdy (Google it) and bagpipes, amidst guitars, bass, as well as both clean and harsh vocals.

Lastly, their lyrics appear to include references towards Celtic mythology, especially that of Celtic Gaul. That is, their lyrics are, more often than not, a reconstructed form of the ancient (and extinct) Gaulish language. In all seriousness, a historian would have a field day with this band.

Other than these four upcoming albums, there are plenty more set to be released this year, the only problem is that most of them have yet to have any official release dates. Nevertheless, let’s keep our eyes and ears open, shall we?

Out of all the upcoming albums of 2019, which ones are you most anticipating?
