I Ran Into A Beauty Guru And Here’s The Story

If you are a beauty and skincare lover, you probably watch tons of YouTube (I mean, who doesn’t?). And if you are a part Youtube’s beauty community, you probably know who Desi Perkins is. Here is the story of how I accidentally met Desi Perkins and still feel BLESSED.

First of all, a few words about Desi in case you actually don’t know who she is.

Desi Perkins is a beauty Youtuber since 2013, and since has grown her channel up to 3.2 million subscribers. She does product reviews, “Get Ready With Me” videos, makeup tutorials, Q&As, fashion hauls, and lifestyle videos. Her recent makeup collaborations with cosmetics brands include Benefit “Bomb Ass Brows” kit, avery well established line of sunglasses with Quay Australia and two rounds of makeup collections with Dose of Colors and Katy, her best friend and a fellow beauty guru as well.

Now let’s proceed to a divide story on a day that I will never forget.

1. THAT morning

It was a beautiful but a bit smoky (due to the horrible wildfires) morning of late August in Vancouver, British Columbia. I was visiting Vancouver for a few days due to nostalgia and to visit some old friends before coming back to Toronto. Last night me and my friend have agreed to meet up for breakfast somewhere in downtown, but at the very last moment she cancelled (DUH). I wasn’t feeling of eating out alone, so I have decided to have a walk in downtown and later pop in into some breakfast place. Little did I expect, that all the good places would be fully packed and the waiting times were all exceeding an hour. After almost an hour walking around I have desperately decided to come back to my hotel. Can you imagine how SHOOK I was, when I saw the beauty guru herself in the lobby?

2. The Convo

I instantly recognized one of my favorite beauty gurus and fashion icons, and to be honest – she looks even prettier in real life than on screen if that is possible. My face instantly turned red and I texted my sister, literally screaming in the messages and asking should I say hi to Desi or will I seem like a crazy fan. After almost five minutes of my difficult inner struggles, I have finally picked up some of my courage and her highlighter in shade “Fuego” from her collaboration with Katy and Dose of Colors out of my bag, and went straight to Desi, who was sitting in the lobby couches and waiting for her husband. I still remember this conversation word to word.

“Ummm…. Hi!” I said. “Are you Desi Perkins?”

“Yeah, hi.” She replied with a smile.

“”Hi again! Just wanted to say how much I love your channel and your content, and I think you are amazing!” I rattled.

She laughed and said, “Thanks! I love how enthusiastic you are.”

Her eyes found a golden compact in my hands, and she asked if that is “Fuego” I am holding.

“Yes! My absolute favorite, I use it every single day!” I screamed.

“Yeah, I’ve noticed those cheekbones, girl!”

3. The Picture

After meeting Desi at my hotel, I found out the reason she was in Vancouver – sooner in the afternoon she was supposed to host a meet up in Nordstrom. I grabbed a sandwich in the hotel bar and practically ran to the department store, to take a professional picture with her. When I arrived I was once again shook by the line in there – what seemed like a 30 mins wait in reality took me 2 hours. But in the end, I got to meet the beauty guru herself again, and she recognized me and even gave me a strong friendly hug. Honestly, I haven’t been this awkward meeting a person ever in my life, but OMG – I got to meet and talk to a glowing-goddess-beautiful-person Desi Perkins herself. YAAS QUEEN.
