How To Survive A Long Flight

Here is the 411 on how to survive a long flight. Long flights can be a drag. These tips on how to survive a long flight will keep you sane and comfortable.

I recently traveled to Scotland. Sure, it was amazing but getting there and back was hell. However, that probably wasn’t the worst part; the flight. Twelve hours in a seat no wider than 30 centimetres and an eight hour flight after that? Luckily I am here to tell you the do’s and don’ts for long haul flights from first hand experience. Here are some tips on how to survive a long flight.

Flying In Comfort…Literally!

So we’ve all read those stories about how to get upgrades. Let me tell you ITS NOT WORTH IT! On the way there I wore jeans and high heeled boots – jeans on a 23 hour trip?! I was jazzed that I might get upgraded. I tried using my height as an excuse or that it was my first time flying alone; I even just asked. Per usual, I got hit with the ‘this flight is fully booked.” Unless you’re a frequent flyer or can pay to get an upgrade, it’s not worth it. Dress comfortably: leggings and yoga pants are the way to go. Always bring a warm jacket. I was freezing the entire flight.

Keeping Your Hydrated

I don’t know if you know this, but your skin get so dehydrated flying. Avoid drinking alcohol and wearing makeup if you can. If you absolutely want to wear some sort of coverage, I always recommend Maybeline’s BB cream. Its hydrating, moisturising and provides light coverage. Once you are comfortably up in the air, take off all of your makeup. No one knows you on the flight and wearing makeup isn’t going to get you an upgrade. Drink a lot of water. Bring an empty bottle with you on the flight to refill.

The Ticket To A Good Seat

Having a good seat is so important. I don’t like paying extra to book my seat however, once online checking is a go, do it! There are always seats available to choose from if you don’t like your given seat. The back of he plane is generally quieter and usually has a spare seat. I was lucky enough to have a free seat next to me the entire flight.

Keeping Your Tummy Satisfied

If you have dietary requirements, having a special meal allows you to have your food before anyone else. You get to finish your meal before everyone which allows you time to go to the bathroom with no lines. I recommend buying food before taking off. Pick up snacks! Muesli bars, chocolates and lollies are great to snack on whenever you’re hungry. Airlines do have nice selections of food at times though.

Relax

Now this is important to many people. Anxiety plays a big part in many peoples lives. I struggle with anxiety and often have panic attacks. I recommend creating a Spotify playlist. I have Spotify premium so I can download my playlist without wifi or data. If you would like to listen to my relaxing playlist I will link it HERE. I had another playlist which I will link HERE. This got me hyped up for my destination and reassured me everything would be okay.
