Why Should We All Take Part In National Day Of Unplugging

Think about this. There must have been a moment in your life when you thought to yourself how good would it be not to have your phone by your side all the time. Whether it is the growing frustration from social media or the feeling of disappointment you have when you look around, and all you see is faces glued to their glaring screen, it has crossed your mind ‘how about an unplug day?’.

The National Day Of Unplugging gives you an opportunity to partake in this social movement, or you can do it on your own whenever you want, not just once a year.

What’s The National Day Of Unplugging?

Before we get into it, it is very imperative to realize how severe is your addiction. Are you that person who travels with two or more devices? Are you not able to go through a meal without checking your phone? If this is you, or someone from your close circle, keep on reading, as the idea of the National Day Of Unplugging may be just what you need in this digital era.

Sign the Unplug Pledge to join the National Day of Unplugging and see if this is something you would start implementing more into your life than just once a year.

The National Day Of Unplugging is an end-product of The Sabbath Manifesto “an adaption of our ancestors’ ritual of carving out one day per week to unwind, unplug, relax, reflect, get outdoors, and connect with loved ones,” is clearly stated on their website.

Reboot has taken on this project as ‘they affirm the value of Jewish traditions and create new innovative ways for young people to participate in older Jewish rituals embracing their culture.’

Besides the National Day of Unplugging and other events and exhibitions Reboot puts together books and movies. Since their launch 542 network members and 900 community organisation partners and others have turned to Reboot to rekindle their connection with the Jewish culture.

How Do You Know If You Need To Unplug?

Ever since the first indication of a smartphone or any other medium that is making our lives easier, as a society, we have become distracted by in-person interaction, and we normalized the technological communication way too much.

It is quite natural for us to consume information when we are by ourselves. However, smartphone addictions go beyond knowledge intake and intervene with your day-to-day life to an extent you cannot go to the bathroom without your phone.

Another sign you might give your smartphone and social media applications a break is when the people closest to you say you are addicted. They know you the best, so they are probably right.

Fairly the easiest way to judge whether or not you are addicted to your smartphone is by answering a straightforward question. When did you 24 hours without your smartphone?

How To Make Your Unplug Time Worth It And Stress-Free?

Now that you have decided to take a day off from social media and from your smartphone, it is time to establish what is the right and worthy way to spend your Unplug day completely stress-free.

A stress-free day usually means to take a day for yourself. It could be anything that you enjoy, from physical activity alone or with other friends, to clearing out your apartment and getting rid of old stuff. The idea is to clear your mind. Declutter your life.

When taking a day for yourself and away from any outside distractions including technology, a spa day is the way to go. You will not come into contact with any phones or any other devices when having a massage, or when in the sauna.

How Do I Join This Movement?

You can join the movement of unplugging by personally signing up the pledge to unplug on the National Day Of Unplugging website.

If you would like to take it a step further, encourage your team and colleagues to join you. Organize a team-building trip and have unplugging a vital part of the process.

If you have kids, be a role model and show your children it is okay to disconnect and spend some quality time with the family without any devices and unnecessary noises.
