For as long as I can remember, autumn has been my favourite season. I often see people posting their throwback summer pictures on Facebook and longing to be back in the heat. But I never got it. For me, autumn has always been the best. Collecting conkers, sitting in binging all the new shows on Netflix and a chance to capture some aesthetically pleasing pictures. Here are five things that make me think autumn is really the best season of the year.
Undershirts, cardigans, jumpers, coats, fluffy socks to stuff your boots. A great way to go about hiding all the winter weight you know you’re gonna put on, but you’ll still be fashionable. You get extra blankets in your bed to wrap up in and become the human worm you’ve always aspired to be.
This just seems like an odd thing to order in spring and summer (even though it might be a little nippy out, you’ll still get a few confused looks!) but now’s the right time. No blank stares as you ask the barista for a grande hot chocolate with cream, marshmallows and even the chocolate sprinkles on top. It’s multipurpose too: the cup will substitute for your lack of gloves. It’s just not cold enough yet to justify digging them out of the back of your drawers.
A chance to get creative and get celebration ready for the holidays to come too. You see some fantastic looks created by makeup artists online, you have an excuse to gather up on sweets and nobody can call you out on how short your skirt is. It’s all in the name of Halloween.
Yellows, reds, oranges. Your neutral eyeshadow palette seems extra weather appropriate, and nobody can call you out for ‘boring’ makeup choices (even though you don’t see how neutral is boring.) You’ll get to co-ord with the fallen leaves on the ground. Mustard is back to stay and we love it. A striking red lip in all shades to top your look off, and you’re set to go.
Christmas is on the horizon. You’ve all made it through most of the year already. Time off is on its way, you’ll have an excuse to sit in and do nothing, stuff your face and catch up with friends and family. All the present deals are on, so you can stock up early or, failing that, cave and buy that seemingly good deal gift set for yourself. You deserve it.
