Ever felt like you didn’t fit in ? Wished you were more extroverted and outgoing? You can easily change your social behaviour by following these 5 tips on becoming an extroverted introvert!
One thing that helps is smiling even if you don’t always feel like it. People will think you’re easier to approach and are interested in having a conversation, which in the end could really be in your favour. Life is unexpected and sometimes you bump into people you would never think you would talk to when you were a full introvert.
When I say take risks, I don’t mean jumping off a cliff but more like putting yourself out there, exposed to different environments and situations, a bar or crowded area for example. Find an empty table and sit there, there will probably be someone approaching you if they feel like talking. And even if there isn’t, you can practice by making small talk with your waiter.
One trick to making others believe you’re more extroverted than you actually are is hiding your nervousness. Even dogs can sense when you’re stresses or uncomfortable, so ditch the lip biting, foot tapping or nail picking and embrace your current position: imagine you’re somewhere relaxing & you’re surrounded by good friends or family.
Once you managed to start a conversation with someone, make small pauses between your sentences, it will seem more natural and less rehearsed or rushed. When you’re out of inspiration for topics of conversation, you can always go back to the old basics and make small talk by asking them about themselves: Where are you from? What do you do? Remind me of your name again? I like your shirt! Any small talk can help reboot the convo.
This might be the hardest one for some of you, but being yourself is key to jumping in the extroverted introvert wagon. If you want people to accept you for one of them, you might as well show your real self. If you hide who you really are it will throw people off and they might think you’re hiding something, which you are. Open up you ears & eyes to the world, nod when you want to, smile when its appropriate & laugh when you feel like it. It should all go well in the end.
Were these tips helpful for all the introverts out there ? If you feel like you’ve become a little bit more extroverted, don’t forget that smaller steps lead to success. Don’t over do it, go slowly & surely.
