This Is Why King’s College London Has Very Low Student Satisfaction

You may have encountered something rather perplexing, namely that quite often high-ranking universities have very low student satisfaction rates. This is also the case for King’s, which has consistently ranked at the bottom of the table when it comes to student opinion. Why is this the case, you may ask? There are tons of things that could warrant a low student satisfaction rating from an angry student. Here are only a few reasons why King’s College London continuously has very low student satisfaction:

1. Slow admin

If you have an urgent question or request that needs sorting out, you might as well give up on trying to reach anyone of importance. The majority of queries that are directed to any of the King’s College London admin take days to even be noticed. In fact, I’ve personally had to wait for two weeks to receive a single document, and that was after I skipped the queue by submitting my query online. Note to self: always apply for everything weeks before you actually need it.

2. And slow staff

The problem of slow communication also applies to most teaching staff, who never reply to emails on time. This seems to be the case across all departments because a lot of students tend to complain about a lack of timely responses. Of course, you could argue that there is a high volume of emails that they have to address, but this doesn’t sound like a good excuse for a desperate student. Oh, and don’t expect to be able to see your lecturer during their office hour either – chances are, they’re either out or fully booked.

3. Insane workloads

Unfortunately, this applies to pretty much every single degree. Admittedly many people expect to have to work hard at a university like King’s College London, but few of them realise what they’ve gotten themselves into until they start their classes. There are even some ridiculously difficult degrees that force you to study material that is way above your level; for example, some undergraduate courses will have modules that are normally taught at MA level in other universities around the world.

4. Constant exam mishaps

Unanswerable questions? Unfamiliar material? Last year’s paper? King’s has done it all! Exam mishaps occur pretty much once every exam session and always leave students feeling distraught or completely demotivated. The best part is that no one is ever in a hurry to sort out the resulting mess, so students are often left sitting in the exam hall with absolutely nothing to do. The real kicker is that you’ve spent hours studying for this exam just to have the admin mess up, again.

5. London is expensive

One of the first things you’ll notice when you start at King’s is that everything around you is extremely expensive. Even something as basic as lunch will probably cost you a lot more than it would’ve done back at home. This obviously just gives the students another reason to be constantly stressed out. As a result, a lot of people start applying for soul-crushing part-time jobs that ultimately impede their studies and work-life balance.

6. KEATS is always down

I don’t literally mean always, but I wouldn’t be far off if I were to say that. The university’s online platform that is pretty much the centre of all of your studies is very often down due to supposed maintenance. Surely it should’ve been fixed by now, considering that it’s always undergoing improvement? What’s best is that it’s often unavailable for a few hours during deadline day, which doesn’t help anyone.
