5 Things I Tell Myself When I Don’t Want To Study

One of the worst feelings in the entire world is when you need to, but don’t want to study. That burning feeling can leave you feeling overwhelmed and out of control. Well, there’s no longer a need to worry as these are the 5 things I tell myself when I don’t want to study, and I can guarantee they’ll help you out too! So, sit back, relax and get reading, for some instant studying inspiration!

1. You Are Very Lucky And Privileged

One of the main things that I try to remind myself of when I’m in that horrid mood, and I don’t want to study, is that I am incredibly lucky and privileged to have access to almost unlimited knowledge, and I should appreciate that. We all should. Many of us, myself included, don’t understand how lucky we are to be attending school for free and having access to education.

It’s important to remember that there are many individuals, who are our age, who only wish they could go to school, but instead are forced to work to help out their parents, or education isn’t valued in their countries. We should take advantage of having an education. So, the next time you don’t want to study, remind yourself, of all of those people who can only dream of an education, of how lucky you truly are, and how you are fortunate.

2. Make Yourself Proud

When it feels like you’ve got a million things to do, yet you don’t want to study, start with the easier and smaller tasks to get you in a productive mood. Little to big achievements always make us feel better about ourselves. Celebrate your progress and reward yourself. Once you’ve completed the smaller tasks, head on over to the larger assignments and take your time completing them.

When you’re done, you’ll instantly feel proud of yourself for getting through your work, and for getting the job done! As a result, your self-esteem will rise and you’ll feel motivated to study more in order to feel proud of yourself once again.

3. Where Do I See Myself In The Future?

When you don’t want to study, remind yourself of your goals and aspirations for the future, and how you plan to achieve those goals. Make sure you have a clear vision of where you want to get to. Doing this will instantly inspire and motivate you to grab your revision materials and to start studying. Additionally, this will remind you of why you enjoy studying, and why you picked a specific course in the first place.

4. Don’t Let Yourself Get Distracted

It can be all too easy for our attention to be pulled from one thing to another. Learn to train your mind to focus on one thing, wholeheartedly, at a time. Even if you just give yourself 15 uninterrupted minutes with a task, you will quickly see the difference in terms of how efficiently you get through your tasks.

When I personally don’t want to study, I almost force myself into doing so by switching my phone off and arranging all of my revision materials in front of me; I also try to minimise as much noise around me, as I can, so that I do not get distracted easily.

5. Don’t Feel Bad – You Are Only Human!

When you don’t want to study, it’s important to remember to not push yourself, as this can make you feel worse. If you’re not in the mood to study, sometimes a little break can really help to re-adjust your mindframe and help you relax. Additionally, try not to take studying too seriously. Try studying with a friend if this helps to make studying a little more enjoyable.

We can all feel lazy and unmotivated sometimes. If you are really stuck in a period of feeling unmotivated and not wanting to study, take a proper break, and come back to your work when you’re feeling better!
