After you’ve lived in Southampton for a little while you will already have picked up an idea of the bars to go to for cheap nights, best cocktails, good food or you’ll have made a list of the ones to avoid completely. Hopefully, this list of 10 of the worst bars in Southampton will help you out when you’re planning a night of fun with your friends, but not put you off them altogether…I hope.
On a night out for students, I think their main concern is what’s close to where they live and how drunk can they get on very little money. It is possible to do just that at Kellys. It tends to get busy quickly. So its probably a better place to start your night if you are serious about hitting up the worst bars in Southampton.
Now this bar does have reasonably decent drink prices. I would stick to having drinks, and only drinks, at The Mitre. You should have food before or after your excursion. Plus it could probably use refurb inside as it’s getting a bit worn. That’s not even why I’d consider it one of the worst bars in Southampton.
Avoid at all costs. Your experience will come at either 2 a.m. or 2 p.m. At 2 p.m. when you pop down to Tesco to get some milk, you will be greeted with a bunch of middle aged guys, all a little worse for wear, staggering outside attempting to start a row with the locals. The story is similar at 2 a.m.
When you go for a night out you go for the atmosphere and experience. That cannot be found at The Anchor. The Anchor usually ends up being an extremely quiet bar to visit with very few visitors throughout the night. The drinks don’t always taste as refreshing as they should.
You can have quiet nights or on other nights, it can be crammed full of students hoping to get the best drink deals possible.
Probably the least impressive of all the Wetherspoons that occupy Southampton. This is mainly to do with the interior appeal. The Bright Water Inn is narrow and feels a bit cramped. It’s still a member of the Spoons family so you can find cheap drink prices. We can’t complain too much.
Located close to Southampton Solent, any students who attended uni during the last academic year will tell you the same thing. Police tape and boards were placed around this bar after an incident late one Monday night. It warrented 2 police cars and an ambulance and the result of the bar was boarded up for about a month. A police officer remained on sight for a week.
Although it is situated in the heart of Bedford Place, do not be fooled by the fish tank and giant deck chairs. This bar is known for ridiculously over priced drinks and – lets just call it – interesting music choices.
All you need to do is search ‘worst bars in the UK’ and there you will have a perfectly summed up description. If you are brave enough to venture to Jesters, you will need a pair of cheap shoes. They will probably last you 3 outings to this place. The floor is covered in things that should never be concocted together. It is a place to visit at least once during your time in Southampton. Purely so you can say you’ve been and enjoyed the 50 pints.
This is an ideal bar for a cheap night out. However, because of the cheap drinks, some people tend to get a bit heated. People are usually thrown out….Not that I’d complain as it’s not the cleanest bar.
