As a woman of colour, it is often hard to find a diverse collection of makeup that suits darker skin tones. It is too often that my foundation would end up a little cakey as the 12 shades of generic makeup provided in most drug stores would not even be close to my skin color. However, there are few hidden gems that are targeted towards darker people so I’ve narrowed down the best makeup brands for brown skin!
When Rihanna launched her makeup line in 2017, everyone lost their minds…and for the right reason. The Fenty beauty line released 40 shades of foundations suitable for any skin tone becoming one of the first few makeup lines to include such a wide range of shades in their collection.

IMAN cosmetics is a makeup line specifically targeted towards women of colour. It has three shade ranges: ‘sand’ for olive skin tone, ‘clay’ for light brown skin, and ‘earth’ for medium to ebony skin. You can choose from 11 different foundations or from their range of concealers so there’s something for everyone.

Beauty Bakerie was started by a single mother and cancer survivor who against all odds found a way to get through life and start her own makeup line. Her makeup line has a great range of products targeted towards people with brown or dark skin tones from yellow powders to bronzers and so much for. Not to forget the packaging is all baking themed and absolutely to die for!

With 40 shades of foundation released, Cover FX is definitely on the list for being one of the best makeup brands for brown skin. Their line also has two shades of setting powder suitable for light and dark skin tone. However, this brand is probably most famous for their custom enhancer drops which basically translate into liquid gold. This highlighter comes in a range of colours that are sure to pop on any skin tone!

Milani cosmetics has a range of products suitable to numerous skin tones and yet is so affordable that you can find it in your local drug store. Check out their line of baked blushes that add a pop of colour and give a soft-natural glow to your face. The shade ‘red vino’ in particular really suits darker skin tones!
