If you’re like me, you like a quiet movie night in. With there being such a vast selection available on Netflix, I mostly find myself giving up and restarting Friends again. Don’t get me wrong, there’s absolutely no flaw in rewatching friends for the 60th time, but there are plenty more fish in the sea! Here’s a list of seven best indie films you should definitely watch:
1. Wes Anderson – Isle of Dogs
All dogs have been banished from Megasaki City by the cat-loving Mayor, due to an outbreak of a virus transmitted only by dogs.The film follows the 12 year old Atari, who travels to Trash Island to find his dog. This animated, cinematographic treat received only high ratings and is perfect for a night in.

2. Samuel Maoz – Foxtrot
The movie written and directed by Samuel Maoz and focuses on a couple who have just been told their son an IDF, has died in action. The Israeli film about war, love and grief has been called one of the best indie films of 2018 and should definitely be on your list.

3. James Franco – The Disaster Artist
Another weird comedy treat delivered by James Franco and also one of the only films he stars alongside his younger brother, Dave. In this film you’ll get to know and love Tommy Wiseau and follow his journey of making his own film, the infamous comedy- drama The Room.
4. Luca Guadagnino – Call Me By Your Name
This coming- of- age romantic drama film is based on André Aciman’s novel of the same name. The 17- year- old Elio meets Oliver, a handsome student who’s interning for Elio’s father in their beautiful villa in Italy. Their friendship blossoms into a beautiful summer romance and will change their lives forever.

5. Bong Joon-ho – Okja (옥자)
A your girl tries everything to stop a big corporation to kidnap her best friend, the genetically modified pig Okja. This adventure movie is available on Netflix has received mainly raving reviews on best indie films, such as Mark Kermode writes in his Guardian review: “A creature feature to get your teeth into.”

6. Greta Gerwig – Ladybird
Ladybird is a homage to all parents working double shifts to support their family. Marion McPherson, who’s one of those parents, has to take on more work after her husband loses his job. The film follows her bond with her turbulent, strong-willed, loving and opinionated daughter.

7. Craig Gillespie – I, Tonya
This biopic is about Tonya Harding, who’s the first America woman to complete a triple Axel during an ice skating competition. She’s riding on a magnificent wave of fame until her ex- husband conspires to injure a fellow Olympic contestant.
