For any Instagram lover, London has got to be up there as one of the best places to get the perfect shot. As a self-aware Instagram fanatic, I have compiled a list of my favourite places to take photos of in London.
While of course this is a well known landmark, there are ways to spice up an otherwise over photographed building. This could be finding an interesting angle from which to take the photo, or trying crystal ball refraction photography.
This is an all round great area to photograph as there are many types of photographs you can take. The lock is good for landscapes, the market is good for close up or different styled photos, and there are many portrait appropriate places too.
For anyone who loves getting a nice close up flower shot, this is the place for you. If you have phone lenses such as a fish-eye or micro lens, then you can get even closer.
For shots of beautiful houses and more of a tranquil London scene then Notting Hill is perfect.
The Southbank is an interesting one for photographing because you can see the London skyline across the river for a landscape or sunset photograph, but there is also a skate park with bright graffiti which also makes for a great photograph.
For a stereotypical London scene, Westminster, with telephone boxes in shot, is a perfect place to photograph. You can also get some lovely sunset shots there.
Covent Garden has a variety of scenes to photograph so if street photography is your thing, you may be interested in the piazza and the street performers. If close up, colourful shots is more your style then Jubilee Market could be a fun place to photograph.
I couldn’t be a UCL student without suggesting Bloomsbury as a great place to photograph.
Shoreditch is another place good for photographing graffiti but it also has cute cafés and shops that make a nice Instagram photo
For portraits with an interesting background or for a photo that can brighten up your account, Chinatown is a great place to photograph.
These places are good to photograph all year round though I must highlight that, at Christmas time, with all the lights and decorations, you can take some great photos and even experiment with some light/ long exposure photography.
While many of these areas are well known, it is important to note that even in the most famous of locations, there are hidden places that make for an original, Instagram worthy photo.
