8 Study Tips To Help You When It’s Exam Time

Exam time can be stressful for any student, and studying for your exams can be just as frustrating. But with these eight study tips, you should be able to prepare yourself and be ready for your exams.

1. Know Your Learning Style

Before you actually start studying, it’s important to know how you study. There are three styles of learning: visual, auditory and tactile. All three styles are different in their methods but all lead to the same result. Most of us have a preferred way of studying, so studying in the way you’re comfortable with will help you immensely when you study.

2. Take Breaks

One of the most important and essential study tips is making sure you take a break while you’re studying. Studying for too long can actually be counter-productive, and can lead you to doing poorly on your exam. If you’re feeling frustrated or exhausted, take a step away from your notes and go outside for a walk. This can rejuvenate you so you are feeling more awake and ready to go back to studying.

3. Create A Planning Schedule

Another study tip is to create a planning schedule. This will help you be more organised and will allow you to make the most of your time. You can do this by breaking down what you need to study into chunks and setting yourself a timer. Study in the set time (whether that’s one hour or two), take a 30-minute break, and go back to studying in the allocated time frame.

4. Find A Study Space

One of the other study tips most people say is to find a space where you can study. This could either be your bedroom, the living room or even outside. When finding a study space, make sure it’s away from any distractions and is comfortable for you to study in. This could be complete silence in a tidy room, or playing some soft background music. Finding a study space that’s right for you will help you focus on your study notes.

5. Pop Quiz Time!

Sometimes entering an exam environment can be stressful, leading you to forget the things you learned. A way to get around this is to quiz yourself continually. Quizzing yourself will help you get used to the mental pressure of trying to remember dates, equations and other facts in an exam setting. You can also get your family or friends to ask you the questions instead of doing the quiz yourself.

6. Food And Water

One of the other study tips most people say is to drink lots of water and eat snack foods. Eating nutritious food (sorry Macca’s!) and drinking water while you’re studying can help keep your energy levels up and help with concentration and memory. This tip is also great for exam day, as the nutrients can help you stay focused during your exam.

7. Positivity

Now, this might seem far-fetched, but being positive and motivated can have its rewards. Being positive can actually help with your learning process; if you’re not positive, then you’re not motivated to studying and doing well on your exams. Having motivational quotes around you can help you maintain your positive attitude.

8. Take Practice Exams

Another great way to study is taking practice exams. Taking practice exams will help you familiarise yourself with the layout of the actual exam and will get you used to the type of questions that will be asked. Furthermore, timing yourself while you’re taking the practice exam will help you get a feel of how long you will need to spend on each question.
