7 Reasons Why You Should Start Meditating

It’s so easy to meditate and with all the potential benefits that come with it, it’s understandable why meditating has grown in popularity so much. With apps such as Headspace and Calm (that help you meditate), meditation is becoming more and more accessible. People are seeing the benefits of it and it seems like everyone wants to try it out. If you are still unsure whether meditation is for you, check out these seven reasons why you should start meditating.

1. Less Stress

There is a lot of evidence nowadays that stress can either cause certain illnesses or make illnesses worst. If you meditate, you could reduce stress. If you often find yourself feeling stressed or fatigued it might be a good idea to start meditating.

When you meditate, your body enters a state of deep relaxation and rest. Your body naturally heals when you sleep/rest (that’s why we sleep a lot when we are ill), so by meditating you essentially promote that healing process and it can really help you feel more relaxed, at ease and most importantly, less stressed.

2. Better Sleep

Good quality sleep is essential for our health. When your sleep quality drops, your quality of life drops with it. You will be more tired during the day, you could get irritable or lose focus. If you meditate you help reduce the clutter in your brain and relax your body.

3. Overall Health Benefits

When you are less stressed and have a healthy sleeping pattern your overall health improves, as well. It increases immune function and decreases pain. The full health benefits of meditation are yet to be discovered, however, it is becoming clearer that meditating can definitely improve your overall health.

4. Improved Creativity

Because meditation helps with focus and declutters your brain, your creativity could improve greatly. If your mind is chaotic and confused, it might be hard to focus on certain creative ideas. However, when you meditate on a daily basis, your thoughts become more organised and your focus improves.

Your creativity may greatly benefit from that. As your thinking becomes clearer, your inspiration can flow more effortlessly as you will find it easier to focus on one idea for a prolonged period of time.

5. Improved Productivity

As mentioned previously, if you meditate you can improve your focus, attention, and creativity. Meditation can also improve your memory. Combining all these benefits results in overall improved productivity. You may find that you spend less time on certain tasks because you are more focused on them.

6. Better Connection With Yourself and Others

Meditation can help you better understand your emotions, your pain, your mind, and body. You may feel an increase in positivity and joy because you are reducing stress and anxiety. Aside from creating a better relationship with yourself, meditation has been connected to an improvement in social life.

If you meditate regularly, you can potentially increase your social connection and emotional intelligence, you can become more compassionate and feel less lonely. It will also help connect with people because of your improved focus. You might finally stop zoning out during conversations and give people your undivided attention.

7. It’s So Easy!

If you really want to meditate, it’s easy to start. There are plenty of guides online that can help you get started. There are some great guided meditations on YouTube, as well as on apps such as Headspace and Calm.

You could also go to organised events with instructors such as aroma meditations. There’s a lot to explore and you should try to find what works best for you.
