10 Reasons Why Essex Is The Best Place To Live

Anyone from Essex knows that Essex is basically its own country. It’s crazy, diverse and amazing. There are so many stereotypes because of one particular reality TV show. Oh-My-Gawd! But the truth is Essex and us Essex people aren’t the stereotypes you might think. It’s so so much more. But regardless, Essex is fab and here are 10 reasons why its the best place to live.

1. It’s close to London

Even though we get annoyed when people say Essex is basically London (because it isn’t!) we can’t deny how great it is that we are so close to the capital. In some Essex places, you can see the Thames and jump on the tube but even if you’re further out the train journey is never longer than an hour and a half. Being so close to London opens up a wide range of opportunities for us from jobs to days and nights out.

2. The countryside

The British countryside is one of the most beautiful things, especially the Essex countryside. There are miles and miles of fields filled with crops and cute animals. Essex is filled with farms to benefit from and explore. Plus, there are many stunning country manors and cottages.

3. The best z00

The zoo is the ultimate day out for anyone and Colchester Zoo in Essex is for sure the best zoo in the country. The zoo opened in 1963 and celebrated its 50th anniversary on 2 June 2013. It is home to many rare and endangered species, a huge 260 different species. It has multiple shops, events and even trains to ride around the park.

4. We have the seaside

The county is home to stunning seaside towns such as Walton on the Naze, Frinton on Sea, Brightlingsea and Leigh to name just a few. They are great places to visit to ride a boat, go fishing and enjoy an ice-cream.

5. A proper British seaside day out

Bringing us swiftly onto the next point. Because we have so many seaside places means we can have a proper British seaside day out. Southend and Clacton are definitely the places to go to. Eating chips with a wooden fork, playing crazy golf next to the sea, wasting money on the arcade and having an adrenaline rush on the rides. At Southend, you can even stroll or ride down the longest pleasure pier in the world.

6. Full of history

Countryside and history is something people never expect of Essex but something it is so rich in. Colchester is Britain’s oldest recorded town and for a time was the Roman capital of Britain and you can still visit the famous castle. There is also still evidence of Roman settlement in Great Dunmow, Chelmsford, and Braintree. Audley End House and the gardens in Saffron Walden are also must sees.

7. The glamour

Short skirts and white stilettos to hit the town. Great clubs and the fanciest of restaurants. The Sugar Hut in Brentwood is always the place to be. Us Essex people are the most glam you will come across and we rock it.

8. We have two airports

A strange one but as soon as we leave the county we realise how far away some people are from their nearest airport when here in Essex we are lucky enough to have two! They’re great airports that do flights to all over the world.

9. Shopping central

For all of you shopaholics out there, Essex is a great place to spend some of your hard-earned cash.  As well as Lakeside, there’s Basildon Eastgate and Westgate. For all your designer needs at bargain prices, there is Freeport in Braintree which has outlets such as Hollister, Ted Baker, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger. The best place to shop till you drop.

10. Bump into celebrities

So if you count TOWIE stars as celebrities then you are bound to meet one at some point. You’re not from Essex if you haven’t already.

I love Essex and would never want to live anywhere else and if you visit I’m sure you’ll agree. Are you from Essex? What do you love the most about the county?
