You may have seen the hilarious ‘F*ck Trump* lipsticks floating around social media with an Andy Warhol inspired Trump on the side of the packaging and wondered, who the hell has come out with this? Well, the brains behind the smashing new product is Lipslut, a zero bullshit makeup brand that prides itself on pushing to improve society. I guess you could say that the brand is a sort of makeup movement, attempting to improve the current socio-political landscape and standards of the cosmetic industry through makeup. Oh, and their products are also 100% vegan and cruelty-free which is amazing.
Lipslut is a make-up brand that wants to inspire a political movement through beauty products to help combat the United State’s flawed political system and help those affected by Trump’s election. The idea was thought up by college senior Katie Sones on the night of Trump’s inauguration. She was infuriated by Trump’s plans to defund Planned Parenthood and other support charities and systems for women and the realization slowly began to hit her that his plans could actually come to fruition. She wanted to create something that would help those who would be affected and that could be “integrated into daily like”. She was passionate about beauty products and decided to turn her passion into an agent of change, so cosmetics seemed like a great start, sparking the birth of Lipslut.
Lipslut describes themselves as “fashion, subversion, and a middle finger to the current socio-political landscape”. They want to create change in the world and are doing so by making amazing beauty products and donating 50% of the earnings to charities chosen by their consumers through popular vote. But it’s not just about the beauty products, its about what they stand for. When you purchase a ‘F*ck Trump’ or ‘F*ck Hollywood’ lipstick, you are helping hundreds of people who have been affected by tyranny and are sticking two fingers up at injustice and oppression.
The brand is famous for its ‘F*ck Trump’ lipstick which went viral last year for it’s genius concept and hilarious packaging. The ‘F*ck Trump’ lipstick is a stunning mid-tone nude pink liquid lipstick that dries quickly and stays on the lips all day. It is amazingly pigmented and super moisturising, with Vitamin E and coconut oil to keep your lips subtle and soft. But as well as being an amazing and wearable lipstick, there is also an amazing motive behind the creation of the lipstick.
Lipslut have ensured that 50% of all earnings from the ‘F*ck Trump’ lipstick goes towards civil rights organizations targeted by the Trump administration. If that wasn’t enough, for a select period of time Lipslut donated 100% of their earnings to support families that have been separated at the border due to Trump’s zero policy immigration policy, which has displaced and separated many parents from their children. During this time, Lipslut donated the earnings from the lipstick to organizations that help the families affected such as RAICES, KIND, Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Centre and Young Centre for Immigrant Children’s Rights. From doing this, Lipslut raised a shocking $100,000 dollars in a mere 2 weeks.
The packaging in itself is also a form of protest with its vibrant turquoise box and Andy Warhol style Trump looking angry as per and wearing a garish pink lipstick. The whole design is faultless, hilarious and very clever. So, if you are in the market for a new everyday lip colour, why not check out ‘F*ck Trump’ and join the lipstick protest against Trump and his idiocy to help make a positive change to the US political system. As well as ‘F*ck Trump’, Lipslut has also brought out another lipstick called ‘F*ck Hollywood’. ‘F*ck Hollywood’ is a true red matte liquid lipstick and is extremely long-lasting. This time the lipstick is in protest to the recent sexual assault scandals in Hollywood that have been uncovered by various sexual assault victims coming forward. So with ‘F*ck Hollywood’, 50% of all the earnings go towards helping anti-sexual assault organizations. When you buy a lipstick, you can pick the specific charity that you want to vote for.
