London’s Best Street Food For Under A Tenner

London has always had a fantastic food and drink scene. However, over the past decade, the trend has somewhat shifted towards the street food culture- more and more Londoners are opting for good quality food on the street.
The choice, the variation and the atmosphere in a food market are completely unlike dining at a restaurant table. It’s messy, it’s no nonsense- the food speaks for itself. With street food, there’s no silver service or fancy decor to hide under. Just pure bold flavours with good quality ingredients. Not to mention the enticingly low price point, of course.
You can easily fill yourself up with some fantastic food that does not break the bank. Here are some of my top Street Food items in London to satisfy your cravings for under a tenner!

1. Chorizo Roll at Brindisa £5

Borough Market is an institution and a fantastic way to spend your afternoon in London. While there are a bunch of brilliant food stalls to try (the choice really can be quite overwhelming at times!), our favourite meal is the Chorizo Roll just outside the Brindisa Food Shop. They’ve been going for well over a decade, and it’s not hard to see why. Spicy sizzling chorizo hot off the grill stuffed into fresh ciabatta rolls with juicy sweet piquillo roasted peppers and rocket. All this for just a fiver (that means you can get two! Or even double up on the meat)

2. Baba G’s Bhangra Burgers £10

Baba G’s is an extremely well loved stall on the London food scene with multiple locations in London (and a spanking new 50 cover restaurant now open in Camden), you will definitely not be sorry you ate here. You really can’t fault any of their burgers. Our favourite is the Naga Delhi burger- super juicy spiced lamb patty with their signature homemade naga chilli sauce, topped with a crispy onion bhaji. Tip: Ask for a squeeze of their tamarind sauce to add a wonderful subtle sweet-sour flavour profile, and a spoonful of the mint raitha to cool off those singed taste buds.

3. The Athenian, Multiple Locations £9

You can find The Athenian at multiple pop-ups all over London- from Boxpark in Wembley to White City and Canary Wharf. Since their inception in 2014, they’ve exploded onto the street food market. The product? Top quality souvlakis and gyros. The most expensive thing on the menu- The Greedy- which is a choice of 2 types of meat +halloumi is still under a tenner. And it is a whopper of a meal. Need we say more? Don’t forget to top it off with all their delicious homemade sauces like spicy feta and their very own Athenian sauce. They also have gluten-free and vegan options and all their souvlakis are also served naked i.e without the pitta flatbread.

4. The Frenchie, £8

Simply put, this is luxury dining at minimal prices. For £8 at The Frenchie, you get stunning rich duck confit in a brioche bun. This is then topped with the melted cheese of your choice (personal favourite being the goat’s cheese and truffle honey), crispy duck scratchings, truffle mayo, rocket and homemade chutney. I mean, talk about bang for your buck! You can also get a burger and chip combo for just £10 (and trust me, you’re going to want to- their chips are twice cooked in duck fat and served with a healthy dollop of truffle mayo). You can find their stall at the South Bank Food Market most weekends.

What are some of your favourite street food stalls in London? Are there any you know of that we may have missed? Let us know in the comments below and we will be sure to try them. You never know- you may even spot one in our next feature!
