5 Life Changing Books To Read This Fall

With fall sadly on its way, you might be wondering what books you can read on your way to school or college or in your work breaks this fall. Here we have five of the most interesting, important and life-changing books that you can read this fall – these five will really change the way you look at life, trust me!

1. The Hate U Give

You might have heard of this book recently as it was made into a movie not very long ago, featuring Amandla Stenberg (who is a fantastic actress and conveys the role beautifully, so the movie is really worth a watch after you have read the book!). But, I would absolutely recommend reading the book before watching the movie as it is so profound and not to mention very important. The book follows a sixteen-year-old girl that witnesses an act of police brutality that leaves her best friend Khalil dead. I think this book is really important as it demonstrates to potentially unaware privileged white people exactly what racism can do and is extremely relevant to a lot of serious racist acts that really do happen regularly but don’t get discussed enough. If you are looking to get educated on the topic or want to educate a friend or family member, this is a book that might really change your outlook on life. It is well worth a read.

2. Me Before You

Again, a lot of people have likely heard of Me Before You because of the film, however, the book is a seriously good read. The book follows Louisa Clark, who takes on a new job caring for Will, a once-active young man who developed quadriplegia in a pedestrian-motorcycle accident two years earlier. At first, Louisa appears to hate the job, finding Will extremely difficult to be around, however, things soon change when they get to know each other better. Sadly though, things quickly take a turn for the worst when Louisa discovers something Will is keeping from her. Despite being a pretty sad book, there are a lot of important life lessons and morals in this book as Will ends up actually helping Louisa a lot more than Louisa probably helps him. The sequels, After You and Still Me are also fantastic books, all about self-discovery and becoming more independent and self-confident. Jojo Moyes sure knows how to teach a good life lesson!

3. All The Bright Places

Although this book is another rather saddening one, it also is a very important one. The book follows the life of Violet and Finch, two outsiders at high school that find friendship in the most unexpected place – literally. I will warn that there is a frequently reoccurring theme of suicide throughout this book, so if that’s triggering in any way for you, definitely avoid this one. However, despite the dark nature of the novel, it teaches a lot about mental health, about dealing with grief, about coping with high school and being an outsider. It’s a very heavy yet important book that should really be on your bookshelf.

4. I’ll Give You The Sun

This story follows twins Noah and Jude, who tackle numerous coming of age issues and some tragic disasters too. As the two significantly grown apart with age and rediscover their love for each other at the end of the novel, it is a great novel to help you appreciate your family that little bit more. Essentially, the novel tackles grief, sexuality, creativity, bravery, identity, guilt, and of course love. It is a beautifully written coming of age novel, ideal for any teenager that is struggling with any number of issues. Plus, this one actually has a kind of happy ending!

5. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine

Eleanor Oliphant, the main character throughout the novel, initially comes across as a very smart and well put together woman. However, we quickly learn that appearances are not everything as Eleanor is in fat extremely socially awkward, suffering from a serious drinking problem, and pretty mentally unwell. The novel follows Eleanor on a journey of new experiences that sadly don’t end well, until eventually, she ends up at her lowest point. Things end well though, so again, if you’re more of a happy ending kind of person, you’re better off with this one! The novel also has some pretty epic twists that really teach the reader a lot about mental health. It is a very important story with a lot of hidden moral meanings.
