How To Create A Sanctuary In Your Home

It is important to have a sanctuary in your home where you can go to feel like you have your own space where you can go to shut off from the world, read, do some hobbies and have some time to yourself. Creating your own sanctuary is a very important aspect of your life but doesn’t have to be a difficult task.

There are some very simple steps you can follow to create a peaceful sanctuary that you can use to get your own time and space. Some people say your entire home should be your sanctuary, but if you dedicate one area to being your sanctuary then it is easier to keep it feeling peaceful and separate.

Choose The Perfect Spot

The first stop to creating the perfect sanctuary in your home is to choose the perfect spot. You need to make sure that the spot you pick fits all of your needs. There should be natural light, wall space, plenty of power points and enough space for the furniture that you need.

To do this you need to decide what you will be doing in your sanctuary. Will it just be a reading nook? Will you be doing arts and crafts and need a hobby table? This will help you know how much space you will need.

Add Plants

Plants are a great way to add some natural colour and have many benefits to your sanctuary. These benefits include increasing oxygen levels, deter illnesses, clean the air, boost healing, increase concentration, and improve your mental health.

Plants have also been proven to absorb and reduce background noise, making your sanctuary much more peaceful. Creating a plant sanctuary is a great way to take refuge from the outside world and the colours that plants bring into a room are a beautiful way of brightening a space without painting.

Add Candles And Humidifiers

Candles and humidifiers are essential to add into your sanctuary to keep it smelling good and being super comfortable. There are certain scents that you can get for your sanctuary that are perfect for being calming, relaxing, uplifting your mood, increasing productivity and reducing insomnia.

The perfect scents and essential oils for your sanctuary are lavender, peppermint, jasmine, chamomile, and orange.

Pick Out Furniture

The next step to creating a sanctuary in your home is picking out furniture that is perfect for the space and its needs. Some of the furniture that you might want to add into your sanctuary are an arm chair, a desk, a chair, a bookshelf and a side table. The furniture should be all the same colour to create flow and connection in the space.

Make It Comfy

The most important part of your sanctuary is that it is extremely comfortable. The best ways to make it comfortable is to fill it with brightly coloured pillows, lots of throw blankets for warmth and comfort, and bean bags. Your new area should be comfortable so that it is peaceful and enjoyable.

Decorate

Decorate your new peaceful area so that it feels like your space. You should put up posters of things you like, pictures of friends and loved ones, fairy lights to create ambient light, and bits of artworks. Decorating the space will make it feel even more comfortable and inviting and make you want to spend more time in it.

Make Sure It Has All The Essentials

The last step to creating the perfect sanctuary in your home is to make sure that it has all the essentials that you could possibly need. This could be your phone charger, a Bluetooth speaker, a bookshelf with a couple of books, magazines and anything else that you need for what you want to use the space for.
