Pick up your boat from Wroxham and cruise down the river to Horning; there are plenty of things to see along the way, such as Bure Marshes Nature Reserve, and once you’re in Horning you can moor up outside the Swan Inn for some lunch! Should you wish to stay for the whole weekend, houseboats are as cheap as £22 a night per person.
In recent years Blakeney has become the largest colony of seals in England. It’s home to two species, common and grey, which can be seen around all year, but if you want to see the adorable pups visit any time from June until January. Getting to the beach on foot is a bit of a slog — it’s better to go on a boat trip from Morston Quay. If you’re lucky, a curious seal might swim up to the boat to check you out!
The Deep History Coast stretches from West Runton to Happisburgh via Cromer in north-east Norfolk, and it’s a history lover’s paradise. It’s home to the earliest evidence of humans outside Africa and to the largest and most mammoth skeleton in the world, part of which is housed in Cromer Museum. After you’re done exploring the fascinating prehistoric finds, head to a seafood restaurant. Due to the chalk reef offshore Cromer, the seafood is phenomenal. Make sure you try some crab while you’re there!
If the idea of getting up close and personal with a whole collection of tame owls sounds good to you, look no further. This quirky experience is Instagram gold, and a great weekend day trip for any animal lover. The owls are captive bred and very comfortable with people — their day job is to visit schools and old people’s homes for educational purposes — so they are more than happy to perch on you and be stroked under the supervision of trained falconers/owl experts.

It’s fun to explore Great Yarmouth’s Golden Mile — which boasts plenty of pubs, restaurants and fish and chip shops beside the arcades and rollarcoasters — at any time of year, but it’s best in summer. The Haven Great Yarmouth Air Show (this year on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 June 2018) is naturally the highlight of the season. Don’t forget to try the doughnuts while you watch. They’re almost too good to be legal.
