7 Fun Hobbies To Take Up This Summer

When it comes into the good weather, we all want to be keeping active and there’s something about the summer that makes us all wish that we had taken up that fun hobby before, but what’s stopping you from doing it now? Nothing! Here are 7 fun hobbies that you should take up over the summer.

1. Yoga

Get flexible this summer by taking up yoga as your new hobby. Not only does yoga burn more calories than you might realize but is also a great form of meditation. Get everything off your mind and have a bit of time to chill out with some yoga. You don’t need a gym membership for this and you don’t even need to go along to classes if you don’t want to, you can learn right from the comfort of your own home with free YouTube videos.

2. Reading

As Sir Richard Steele once said, “reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body”. There’s no better feeling than curling up in a cozy spot with your favourite book so why not expand your knowledge and finally get through your reading list this summer by taking up reading as your new summer hobby. Read about crystal healing, crime, cookbooks, anything! There’s a book out there for everything and everyone. If you don’t have the time to read but wish you did then why not cheat and listen to the e-book version of it? With the technology available right at our fingertips, there’s no excuse not to.

3. Cycling

If you feel like getting a little more active then cycling might be the hobby for you. An affordable, eco-friendly and fun way of getting from A to B, not to mention looking cute AF while doing it. Dust off that bike and get a pair of those cute gym shorts, this summer it may only be popping down to the shops on your bike, but next summer it’s Tour De France.

4. Gardening

Give those green fingers a wiggle and give gardening a shot this summer, not only is gardening very therapeutic but it is also one of the more rewarding hobbies to have. Grow your favourite beautiful flowers or your own delicious fruit and veggies. Don’t worry if you don’t have a garden though, most towns and cities have allotment patches you can rent for cheap or why not even start a window sill garden. Make the most of the space you do have and start a small indoor herb or succulent garden. This could go hand in hand with the next hobby you could take up this summer…

5. Cooking

Why not crack out the saucepans and giving cooking a go this summer? You can even use ingredients you’ve grown yourself in the garden! There is literally no down side to this hobby, cooking is a great skill to have and everyone will love you for asking them to try your treats. If you’re new to cooking you can always start small by making easy things like baking cupcakes and by the end of the summer, you’ll be able to cook a 5-star, three-course gourmet meal.

6. Making Jewellery

A fun and creative way to stay right on trend is by making your own jewellery, you could even make some money from this as well if you wanted. Making jewellery is not only surprisingly inexpensive but also pretty relaxing. It can help you take your mind off things as you focus on making something pretty. You could even make friendship bracelets for you and your bestie.

7. Thrift Shopping

If you’re a total shopaholic then maybe it’s time to switch to thrift shopping, it’s much more affordable and it’s a lot more eco-friendly than buying from fast fashion high street stores. You can find pretty much anything and everything while thrift shopping; cooking appliances, cute vintage jeans, even books for school. Why not even incorporate this into your other new hobbies? Like they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Do you think you will take up any of these hobbies over the summer? Have you already started your new fun hobby? Let us know in the comments!
