Europe has always been a great hit with travellers. Europe is rich in History, the sights are gorgeous and you get to experience multiple cultures in a short period of time. Plus, for us Brits we can be there in two hours flat. Furthermore, travelling Europe is super accessible. As all the countries are joined it makes travel cheap, convenient and quick. Although some countries are obviously going to have more of an allure than their counterparts so I have compiled what I think are the best European destinations to visit this summer.
Croatia has gained popularity among in recent years. Especially following the World cup. It’s easy to see why it’s one of our favourite European destinations now. The country is simply beautiful; blue oceans, stunning national parks and it’s home to some of the most awe-inspiring architecture. If you fancy spending your summer marvelling at Waterfalls and gazing at lakes, then a visit to KRKA national park should 100% be on your to-do list. Plus, think of the photo opportunities you will be given. This small country is the definition of Instagram goals so while everyone is working at home you’ll be under the hot sun swimming in a waterfall. Doesn’t that sound heavenly.
This country has it all that’s why it appeals to a huge range of people. Dubrovnik satisfies the city revellers. Zagreb has a chilled beach vibe for people that like a slower holiday. The range of islands surrounding the country can satisfy your wanderlust as you can go off the grid for a couple of hours and explore. Furthermore, if you are a fan of a little show named Game of Thrones, then this is the place to spend some of your summers. You can marvel at the city walls and forts of Kings-landing and pretend you are amongst the chaos of Westeros for a while.
The reason this country has gained so much popularity is its variety. So if you are looking for a place that is stunning and hot this is for you.
Amsterdam is kind of a hybrid and that is why its on the list. A completely liberal city where people can come to relax and escape for a couple of days. This city has something for everyone. If you fancy riding a bike beside beautiful canals this is the place for you. Although you’ll have to watch out for the tons of other people doing the exact same thing. For the history buffs of your group, there is the Anne Frank House which I completely recommend. It’s a hard wrenching experience as you wonder at a family’s bravery in the face of true cruelty. For the less historical members of your group, there is the sex museum that is a completely different experience. Furthermore, walking through the red light district is something a person should experience at least once.
I can’t even begin to describe the feeling of standing in front of the Colosseum in Rome. Its sheer stance and rich history just knock you silent. The building may be crumbling but it speaks volumes. Rome is a marvel everywhere you turn there is something to stare at or take a picture of. Get on your walking shoes because you won’t realise how far you’re walking until your feet start throbbing. If you fancy someplace quieter, then head up to the port city of Savona for an authentic Italian experience. You can head down to the harbour and have dinner at one of the many restaurants whilst staring at the stunning harbour. Or you can mix with the locals in the gelato shop. Lastly, visit Sicily if you want to see the active volcano, Mount Etna. There’s nothing like a natural sight to make you realise how special our planet actually is.
The Hungarian capital will charm you off your feet. Between the mixture of old and new, you won’t know how to spend your days in this city. Between going to the thermal baths and relaxing under the sun or going and partying in one of Budapest’s ruin bars. A neglected building gets renovated and becomes a bar or restaurant with retro decoration. If spas aren’t your thing there is plenty of architecture to marvel at. Furthermore, if you find yourself here in early August you can enjoy the Sziget music festival. Where bands such as Florence and the Machine or Post Malone have all been in attendance. Tons of music revellers come to enjoy the 7 -day festival with almost guaranteed sunshine. What’s not to love about Budapest?
