Why It Is Important to Love Yourself Before Anyone Else

Why do we look down on ourselves? And how can we overcome this? Having low self esteem and perceiving ourselves in a negative light is all too common among young adults, children, and even many adults. Let’s put a stop to these low self esteem issues! Keep reading for why it is so important to learn to love yourself before anyone else!

1. Most of the time we are influenced by media and the assumed successes of others, particularly celebrities.

We see it every day on our social media outlets. We see why celebrities are so successful, and we can’t help but compare ourselves to them. We wish that we had that same reason for attention and the attention from others that follows.

What we need to remember:

Most celebrities and people who we believe are successful have just as many hours in the day as we do. What makes us special is that everyone has something different to bring to the table. Besides, celebrities have the money to pay for personal trainers, stylists, stay-at-home chefs, etc. It’s not fair to compare ourselves to most of them.

2. We are unsure of what we want specifically in life, we haven’t really discovered our purpose.

Not all of us have figured out yet what exactly will give us real happiness in life or what we are supposed to do, where we are supposed to go, etc. We get really frustrated with ourselves due to the fact that we don’t know what to do. This frustration eventually leads to a lower self-esteem.

What we need to remember:

The first step should be self-acceptance. When you learn to become comfortable with yourself, then the rest will follow. It’s not easy, and it’s definitely not an overnight process. But if you learn to accept yourself everything else will fall into place and everything will be as it should be.

3. We notice the aspects of our life that we lack far more than we notice what we should be grateful for.

If you wake up in the morning there’s ALWAYS something to celebrate. Never think that there isn’t a reason. Every day is another chance to do something great!

What we need to remember:

Always try to seize each day to the best of your ability. Sometimes you’ll have lazy days, and that’s okay! Keep your goal on developing yourself. You might unveil something you never knew you had in you!

4. It seems as if you’re the only one in the world who has faults or self esteem issues.

Everyone goes through a low self-esteem phase in their lives, probably multiple times. It seems as if you’re the only one who has faults, is way less than perfect, and has low self esteem because it is impossible for you to know what everyone else around you is thinking.

What we need to remember:

You’re not alone! Everyone else is thinking the same thing as us! You’re not the only one who goes through it, even though it may seem like it.

5. You shrug off people’s compliments towards you because you can’t see them yourself.

Stop thinking people are lying to you when they compliment you! If they’re lying to you then that is their own problem, and chances are more likely that they are being sincere. Also, you’re not being any more polite by dismissing their flattery. The people who compliment you don’t really need to tell you anything, but they choose to! You should be able to know yourself better than anybody else. So then why would this person call you beautiful, intriguing, intelligent or whatever it may be? It’s because he or she loves you for who you are.

What we need to remember:

Don’t argue with or ignore other people’s compliments just because you beg to differ. If someone compliments you, say thank you and mean it. Then reflect on what they said and trust them. Value yourself. The person who compliments you might wish that they could be like you. Beauty is subjective after all. We have to learn to accept these compliments, rather than questioning “why” people provide them.

When you block any form of positive response from others or from yourself, you’re bound to develop low self-esteem and/or self-hate. Don’t look down on your beautiful self. Everyone has the potential to be great. Don’t let anyone’s opinion become an obstacle. Give it your all to seize every day and develop yourself! Especially your self-confidence!
