Why Dunkin Donuts Is Better Than Starbucks

Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme. It’s the one of the biggest battles in fast-food history since, like…forever. America has been running on Dunkin’ ever since the 1950’s, and Starbucks trailed behind 30 years later, debuting it’s first store in the 1970’s. There’s very much so specific audiences per each establishment, and each have a very dense fan base. Then you have people like me, who enjoy switching up means to feed my caffeine addiction from time to time, but always find myself going back to my tried and true: Dunkin Donuts. Starbuck’s fanatics can argue against it until they’re blue in the face, but nothing beats a fresh donut in the morning with a creamy, sweet coffee in hand. Let’s break down some reasons why Dunkin Donuts reigns supreme over Starbucks.

1.The Price

If you’re a daily-coffee-run type of person, you must be making some big bucks to drop a good $5-$7 daily on coffee. I can buy a value meal at McDonald’s with that kind of money! Dunkin’ has delicious coffees that you’ll spend no more than five bucks in total on (and that’s if you’re getting something like a large cold brew with almond milk…all of which would probably still only equal five bucks). There’s just something more appealing about a cheaper option that is still of delicious, caffeinated quality. Getting a ‘grande’, bitter, bottom-of-the-coffee-pot-tasting iced coffee that requires a lot of special attention to get the perfect blend of flavoring is just way too much effort for a whopping $5.00. It can’t possibly match up against Dunkin’s 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. coffee special that gives you any sized hot or iced coffee for only $1.50. The winner is very clear here…let’s be real.

2.The Coffee

Now here’s where the real debate comes into play. Most would argue that the biggest difference between Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts is the actual coffee. If you’re a coffee aficionado, you’d probably consider Starbucks to have the better blend of brewed beans (try saying that five times fast). Dunkin might seem boring, and much-like bean water, but I’m here to defend America’s favorite. Starbucks coffee is much too strong, and much too bitter for people who enjoy the fix-ins more so than the actual coffee, itself. And for a fancy surplus of fix-ins at Starbucks, you’ll definitely pay the price. However, extra flavor shots and heavier cream or extra ice is a whopping zero dollars at Dunkin’ Donuts…all which make your coffee that much more enjoyable!

3.The Seasonal Flavors

Starbucks is arguably the best for picture-worthy cups of coffee that are encased in everyone’s favorite holiday cups (which are out now, btw!). However, Dunkin Donuts has delicious seasonal flavors that I just can’t get enough of! Butter Pecan, Pistachio, Pumpkin, Maple Pecan, Peppermint mocha, Sugar Cookie, Snickerdoodle, Girl Scout Cookie-Inspired flavors…need I say more?! You cannot go wrong with any of Dunkin’s seasonal flavors, and they’re way less expensive than Starbucks for (probably) more delicious beverage in your cup! Although Starbucks has extremely similar seasonal flavors, they just don’t quite add up to Dunkin.

4.The Sizes

If you’re not a Starbucks drinker, you’re completely flabbergasted by their sizing options: Mini/Short, Tall, Grande, Venti & the motherload…Trenta (see how complicated?). To Starbucks’ valued customers, this is completely normal, and there’s no hesitation when ordering their venti non-fat, triple shot, one pump SF vanilla, two pump SF cinnamon dolce, no-foam, extra whip latte, duh. However, if you just want a simple cup of coffee without any hassle, Dunkin’s small, medium, and large (I think XL is an option too for one of those days), will surely suffice. Arguably, you’re getting more coffee at Dunkin than you are Starbucks….but you didn’t hear that from me.

5.The Extras

Starbuck’s food is quite yummy (like their spinach feta wrap) but for cheaper options, and uhm, hello, donuts!, then Dunkin wins all day, every day. I really don’t think anyone can resist a yummy donut complimented wonderfully with a nice cup of coffee. It’s extremely family friendly! Everyone in the family can get a kick out of getting a dozen donuts and an extra-extra coffee (Starbuck drinkers have no clue wtf that even means). Dunkin offers munchkins, donuts, delicious hash brown bites, several breakfast sandwiches…even a $2 menu of snacks that make for the perfect mid-day pick-me-up! Talk about win-win. You can even ask them for a dollar’s worth of munchkins, which scores you about five little delicious balls of donut-goodness!

Whether you hate to love it, or love to hate it, you’re always a fan of being caffeinated and happy! The lifelong dispute between Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts has no clear end in sight, but I hope these reasonings allow you to see the real winner here…in my own opinion, of course. Enjoy and caffeinate away!
