Which type of eyeliner is most suited for you?

Not sure what eyeliner will give you the desired effect you want? This guide is for you!

What does eyeliner do?

Eyeliner can be drawn above upper lashes, waterline, or below the lower lashes. It adds definition to lashes, draws attention to the eye, and can change your eye shape. There are many types of eyeliners that provide different benefits to your makeup routine.

Gel eyeliner

Gel eyeliner is applied with a brush, which makes it easier to control and give a dramatic look. They are also more long-lasting, smudge and waterproof compared to other types of liners. It also gives you a lot more product to work with compared to other liners.

Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner is long-lasting up to 24hr. It is waterproof and oil free, so there is no worry of it running down your face. With the brush, it also gives a precise line that is perfect for a wing. It is pigmented and will last all night out in the city. It gives a matte finish and glides on smoothly. It is priced at $9.99, and gives you the polished look without the hefty price tag.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner is created by artists and won several awards such as Elle’s “Genius Award” and Allure’s “Reader’s Choice Award”. It has been one of the top gel eyeliners for years. It is ultra-precise and budge-proof, creating a defined line that will last all day. It has 8hr wear and is sweat and waterproof. It is suitable for all ages and skin types. You can use it for more of a smokey look or for everyday wear. You will look like a professional makeup artist in no time. It is priced at $32.

Pencil eyeliner

Pencil eyeliner is drawn on as you would other types of makeup pencils. It is easy to use and beginner-friendly. This can give you an everyday natural look, especially if you go with lighter colors. It can also be more intense with darker colors smudged out.

Milani Stay Put 16Hr Eyeliner is pigmented and easy to apply. It is a mechanical pencil with a smudger and sharpener. This is ideal for throwing in your purse or traveling, there is no concern about it breaking off and you are stuck without any eyeliner the whole trip. It is water-proof and sweat resistant, so you can go for a run around your neighborhood and still have flawless makeup. It is transfer resistant, so you can smudge it as much as you want without worrying it will be all over someone’s shirt. It is cruelty free, comes in many colors, and is priced at $9.99.

Stila Stay All Day Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner has 12hr wear and quick to glide on, and gives enough time to smudge out along the lash line. You can use it as a classic eye pencil or can smudge it out into an eyeshadow. There is a variety of matte and shimmer shades. It has moisturizing ingredients that go on smooth on the skin. This will give you the effortless I just rolled out of bed look or a more put together look. It is cruelty free and $22.

Liquid eyeliner

Liquid eyeliner has a more liquidy texture and can be tricky to apply if you are a beginner. It can give you that precise cat eye you see online and also can give more intricate designs because of how small the brush is.

Wet n Wild MegaLine Liquid Eyeliner is a rich formula that glides on with ease on the eye. It dries down fast, which means you can use this in the morning before going to work or school if you want to. It also is a good size to carry around with you on the go.The brush is also a great size, it is small enough to get in details but not too small that it takes you forever. It has some bolder colors as well, such as purple and blue. It is cruelty free and priced at $4.29.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Liner is waterproof and highly pigmented. It applies evenly and smoothly. It is a true black and matte shade. It is a water-based gel formula and dries quickly. The brush also gives you multiple looks, you can create a thinner line for a more natural look.  It is cruelty free and vegan. This is great for someone who does not want to spend all day on their eyeliner. It is priced at $18.

Felt-tip eyeliner

Felt-tip eyeliner is my personal favorite, and a lot of others as well. The tip of the pen is similar to a drawing pen, which makes it easy to apply. There are also different sizes to go along with how thick you like your eyeliner to be.

NYX Epic Ink Vegan Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner is the best way to get a super sharp wing. It is the eyeliner I currently use. It is highly pigmented and will give you that solid color across the lid with a satin finish. The brush is flexible and precise. This eyeliner is easy to apply and you can do it within seconds. It is long lasting, it will stand up against your tears, sweat, rain, basically anything. It does not run and will make it through all your errands. It is cruelty free and priced at $10.

Tarte Sex Kitten Black Liquid Eyeliner is waterproof and has intense color payoff. It is evenly distributed and lasts up to 12hr. The felt tip gives you flexible movement to create sharp lines. It’s also safe for contact lens wearers which is a huge plus. It has a matte finish, vegan and cruelty free. This is an ideal eyeliner for people who love to have fun with their wings. The cute kitten packaging you can’t resist. It is priced at $20.
