London is a bustling metropolis full of attractions, history, and events. Although with hundreds of things to see and do, it can feel daunting when you only have 24 hours in this epic city. However, if you find yourself in the capital for a stopover, you won’t find time to be bored. In fact, you will be so frantic to fit in as much as possible, that you will be exhausted by the time your head hits the pillow. Here at Society19, we have taken the guesswork out of your trip for you. Below, we have written what we think are the best ways to spend 24 hours in London!
As we all know, the early bird catches the worm, so get up and get yourself a ticket on one of London’s hop on /off buses. Not only is this an excellent way to see some of London’s biggest attractions, but it’s also super affordable. It is priced between £28- £36 depending on the company you choose. Some, also include a River Thames cruise in the price of the ticket. You won’t have to spend extra cash on travel for the rest of the day as buses run every few minutes.
No trip to London would be complete without a visit to the Queen’s palace. If you find yourself in London between August and September, you can go on a palace tour. You will be able to marvel at the throne room and the fine art that lives in the palace. If you don’t fancy the tour you can admire the palace from behind the fence like so many others!
Trafalgar Square is one of London’s most vibrant locations. The square is surrounded by museums, galleries, and cultural spaces. This invites a hub of people who come to see the fountains and statues in the square. This is a beautiful spot to sit and read or people -watch, whilst the city continues to rush by. In a city that is always busy, it’s often nice to take a breath and appreciate the beauty that is London!
Following your morning sightseeing, you’ll surely have worked up an appetite. London has tons of places to eat and it’s hard to decide what to have with so much choice on offer. You should visit Camden Market. Between, terrace bars, cult cafes, pub lunches and an array of street food, you will still be bombarded by choices but at least its all in one place!
After you have nibbled on delicious street food and baked goods you will be feeling slightly full. So I suggest heading down to the embankment where you can relax on the grass and listen to some buskers. You will be in the city’s heart and see tourists on their way to the Houses of Parliament, London Eye, dungeons or the aquarium!
London’s West End is home to Covent Garden. A popular destination for tourists, as well as locals, who enjoy theatre, shopping, bars, and restaurants. Well known for street theatre in its piazza area, you can sip craft beer whilst being entertained. After indulging in some high brand shopping, feel free to let the evening settle in with a couple of drinks to celebrate your day in London.
It wouldn’t be a trip to London without going to the theatre and London has tons to offer. From staple musicals to modern immersive experiences, there is a huge variety when picking a show to go see. London really does cater to everyone and you can reserve tickets in many booths in Leister Square, online or even at the theatre door before the performance. Spend your evening getting lost in a story and enjoy ice cream during intermission!
When the curtain drops in the theatre, you may want to end your night with a nightcap or two. The best place to spend the rest of the evening is in Soho. A short distance from London’s west end, the streets of Soho are dynamic and never quiet. Soho isn’t the place to go for a quiet drink but it is the place to find live entertainment and pounding nightlife!
